Strange Abstract Miracle
By Jennifer Joy Arend

The darkness is comforting
Shadows surround the mystery
In a world of the bizarre
A land of the curious
Stands a lone cypress tree

Forgotten by the ambiance
Of an egotistical dawn
Life is more like dying
Seeking though untrying
Many a mirage has come and gone

Storms rage from black clouds
Death rains from the tempest sky
An eccentric raven
Crawls on the ground
Wishing that he could fly

The raven does not sing at all
As he ponders morbid imagery
His sarcastic cynical laugh
Echoes over empty graves
Of those who are dying from misery

Over the black hills of madness
An odd apparition appears
A strange stranger
A wandering knight
Releasing his humorous tears

His aura of noble chivalry
Calls the raven to come and see
This weird wandering
Original individual
Make-believing in true ecstasy

So pathetic crawling on the earth
The knight looks down at the bird
He listens to his laugh
The strange cynical song
The saddest tale he has ever heard

A hand lies open on the ground
A twisted chance of destiny
Crawling into the palm
Merciful magic lifts
The raven to the cypress tree

High above the world of pain
The raven opens his wings
Closer to the edge
From the branch he flies
And finally the raven sings

The knight watches the clouds
As they leave the tempest sky
The sun rises over
The black hills of madness
And all the shadows die

The knight returns to the stars
Knowing that he has done well
A silent savior is he
In his universe of solitude
He needs no one to tell

But the raven will still sing
Songs of the noble knight
Who came into desolation
Sacrificed his isolation
And lifted him to flight
