Twins 1
by Walter Edminster

Phyllis and Mark were having lunch at a restaurant near their place of work. They were spies. Actually they didn’t spy much anymore. They’d been promoted so high they no longer had to. Now they sent other people out to spy. But they had a problem. A big problem. They were not enjoying their meal. A few tables away another person was having lunch and he was enjoying it immensely. His name was Mike Fowler.

Mark was talking to Phyllis when suddenly he stopped in mid sentence. He was staring at Mike, who was sitting behind Phyllis. Phyllis said, “What are you staring at?”

“I think I may be staring at a solution to our problem. When you get a chance, look at that fellow behind you.”

“How will I know which one to look at?”

“You’ll know.”

Phyllis took the mirror from her purse and pretended to fix her hair. “Oh my God!” She almost dropped the mirror. “If it wasn’t for the mustache, I would have sworn it was him.”

“That plus the fact that we were just talking to him 10 minutes ago and he was not wearing blue jeans and a sweat shirt.”

“We have to talk to him.”

“Yes. Wait until he finishes his meal then invite him over to our table for coffee. Tell him he looks just like someone you know and you want to find out if he’s related to him.”

“Do you think he’ll go for it?”

“He looks like the type of guy who would never pass up a chance to have coffee with a pretty girl.” Mark looked around the moon. “All we need to do now is find a pretty girl.”

“Wait till we get back to the office. I’ll make you sorry you said that.”

Mark was right, Mike would never pass up a chance to have coffee with a pretty girl. He was a pleasant guy. Nice personality, easy going. Smiled a lot. He made a living as a computer programmer. He was not married and did not plan to get married for quite a some time. He’d just moved there from Dallas and was still learning his way around town. This was all valuable information for Mark and Phyllis. They had plans for Mike and so far, he proved he had all the right qualifications; no ties. Of course Mike knew nothing about these plans. He just thought he’d met some really nice people, and one of them was very pretty. Then they offered him a job.

Phyllis said, “How would you like to make a very large sum of money for just two weeks work, Mike?”

“I would like that very much if there wasn’t a catch to it. Usually there is with an offer like that.”

“No catch at all. You have something we need and you’re the only one who can provide us with it. We’re willing to pay you a large sum of money for a job that will last for two weeks or less.”

“That’s the catch. It’s shady. No way.”

“No, it’s not shady. Or office is just a couple blocks from here. Come with us and Instead of telling you, we’ll show you.

They brought Mike into the building and escorted him past all the guards and security checks. He didn’t know what these people did for a living but it looked like, they wanted to keep it a secret. They stopped in front of an office door. Phyllis said, ”I’m going to introduce you to someone and then I think you’ll understand what you have that’s so unique.” They opened the door and walked in. Mike almost went into shock. Seated behind a desk was Mike, without a mustache, wearing a suit and tie. Mark said, “Why don’t you have a seat?” Mike accepted the invitation without argument. He was a bit weak in the legs.

They introduced him as Jack. No last name, just Jack. They were identical twins, except for two things. Mike smiled a lot, Jack didn’t, Mike had a mustache, Jack didn’t.

Mike said, “You’re going to pay me a large sum of money to impersonated Jack.”

“You catch on quick.”

“It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. But why do I need to impersonate him in the first place?” Jack pushed back from the desk. He was in a wheel chair. “I need to meet some people in a day or so. It’s a very important meeting that I won’t be able to attend. I had an accident. I’m paralyzed from the waist down.”

“Send someone else.”

“They will only meet with me. No substitutes.”

“Is it that important?” All three answered at the same time, “Yes!”

They talked for about 30 minutes then Phyllis said, “Come on, we’ll get some coffee and I’ll explain everything in detail.”

Mike said, “Nice meeting you, Jack.”

Jack said, “Yeah.” Jack was a man of few words. After they all left his office, Jack got out of his wheel chair and walked over to the file cabinet thinking, “It was nice knowing you, you poor bastard.”

Phyllis was briefing him for the assignment. “The meeting will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, at an amusement park called the Tivoli. First we’ll give you a rundown on the information you’re to pass on to them at the meeting. When we’re sure you have it all memorized you will fly to Amsterdam where one of our agents will meet you and together you will go to Copenhagen. Our agent will give you further instructions. Just follow her advice.”

“Her?”

“Yes her. I think you‘ll like her.”

“This sounds like cloak and dagger stuff to me. Meeting in an amusement park. Why not in a hotel conference room?”

“You’re right. This is cloak and dagger stuff, as you put it. Does that bother you?”

“Not in the least. Sounds like it might be fun.”

“This business is seldom fun. That’s why we’re paying you a huge sum of money. You had better take it seriously.”

Mike smiled and said, ”OK” The eyes were smiling but Phyllis saw something else in those eyes. She didn’t think she would care to see them up close when they weren’t smiling.

Monday you’ll start a short training period. We’ll give you the information you need to pass on then we’ll take you through some dry runs. We’ll ask the type of questions they’ll be asking you during the meeting. Once you feel comfortable with that, we’ll send you on your way. We have you scheduled on the evening KLM flight to Amsterdam. You’ll arrive the next morning and be met by our agent. The two of you will act as man and wife and will go to the airport Hilton where she will already have a room.”

“Do I get all the benefits that go with the man and wife package?”

“No! You’re not taking this seriously. Now pay attention. You won’t go directly to Copenhagen. You’ll stay in Amsterdam a day or two until our agent decides it’s time to go. You do exactly what she says and there will be very little danger. You’ll be in her hands from the time she meets you. Do you understand?”

”I understand what you told me but you left out a few important details. Like how will your agent recognize me when I get off the plane, how much money and when will it be deposited in my bank? Also, How am I going to arrange for time off at work?”

“She knows Jack and without your mustache, you are Jack. There is now $50,000 in you’re account and a certain senator has already called you’re company and informed them that you will be needed in Washington for a week or two. When you get back you’ll be the famous mystery man. You won’t tell them anything and they’ll wonder what sort of secret life you lead when you’re not programming computers. OK?”

“It looks like you’ve thought of everything.”

“We try. Go home and get a good night’s sleep. You’ll report here Monday morning at 0800. We’ll spend the rest of the day preparing you for the meeting. Monday night you’ll be having dinner in the business section of a KLM 747.”

“Why not the first class section?”

“We don’t want you to get the big head. You’ll like the business section. The food is great and they aren’t pampering you every five minutes.”

“I could go for a little pampering. Oh well, you’re the boss. See you Monday morning.”

As he walked out the door Phyllis said to Mark. “Sometimes I really hate this job. I hate what we’re about to do to him. I’ve grown quite fond of him, something one should never do in this business.”

“Yeah, I know what you mean.”

They approached Amsterdam in a shallow decent. The pilot told the passengers they would be over land in approximately five minutes and if they would look out their windows they’d see the windmills Holland was so famous for. It was indeed a sight worth seeing. One that couldn’t be seen anywhere else in the world. Although only a few of them worked now, there were still plenty of the around. Every few minutes one would pass under their wing.

A few minutes later they landed at Schiphol airport. The passengers immediately went through customs, picked up their luggage, and after a brief inspection, stepped out into the main lobby. Mike wondered what he was supposed to do next. A woman walked up to him smiling. She said, “Hi Jack.” and gave him a bear hug. It wasn’t an unpleasant bear hug. The lady was as tall as he was, in very good condition, slightly muscular, and very attractive. She looked like Cory Everson without the smile. Mike wondered if there was anyone in this outfit who knew how to smile. She said, “Come on, let’s go.” They went out through the front door and across the street into the parking lot. Mike asked, “How far away is your car?”

“It’s just a short walk to the hotel so I didn’t bring the car.” She pointed across the parking lot to the Hilton hotel. It was about 200 meters from the air terminal. About half way through the parking area they passed a large round building. She said, “That’s the train station. We’ll be taking a train from there into town in the morning.”

“Where are the trains.”

“Underground. We have one of the best train systems in the world here.”

“By the way, what’s you’re name?”

“My name is Carol. Don’t forget, your name is Jack, not Mike.”

“Right. Is Carol your real name?”

“Of course not!”

“I shouldn’t have asked. Are you always this friendly or do you sometimes become rude and grouchy?” She turned her head and looked at him but didn’t say anything.

They walked into the hotel, picked up the key at the desk then went over to the elevators. They got off at the third floor and went to the room without speaking a word.. Inside she said, “That’s your bed, this is mine. Let’s keep it that way.”

“Believe me, I wouldn’t have it any other way.” She gave him that look again but this time she looked a bit hurt. Mike was sorry he’d said that. Although she didn’t want to share a bed with him, it still hurt her to think he wouldn’t like to.

He said, “I’m sorry I said that. It was uncalled for. I would like very much to share a bed with you under different circumstances. I realize you’re under a lot of pressure right now and don’t want anything interfering with your job.” She didn’t say anything. She just looked away. Finally she said, “It doesn’t pay to get too close to the people you work with in this business.”

Mike said, “Yeah, especially when their being setup.” Carol’s head jerked up, “What do you mean by that?”

“Nothing. I just wanted to see your reaction. I don’t know about you but I’m going to take a shower and go to bed.” He got up and went toward the bath room taking off his clothes as he went. “If you’re shy, don’t look.”

Fifteen minutes later he came out of the bathroom in just his skivvies. As he climbed into his bed he said, “Good night, or good day. Wake me up for dinner.”

“I’ll go out for the day while you rest up. I’ll be back later.

Carol came back around 5 pm and had a surprise waiting for her. When she came through the door, Mike was sitting in a chair in his skivvies watching TV and drinking a beer from the pay as you go, refrigerator. On the floor was a guy with a lamp cord wrapped tightly around his ankles and wrists. Over on the dresser was a very nasty looking knife. Carol said, “Who’s this?”

“Oh, him. He came in here about an hour ago while I was asleep with that big knife and tripped over the lamp cord. As you can see, he got all tangled up in it. I just left him there. Thought he might be somebody you know. I put his knife over there on the dresser. I was afraid he might cut himself.” Carol didn’t say a word. She just looked at him. Finally she went over to the phone and called someone. A few minutes later a maid came in pushing a large laundry cart. They picked up the body and dumped it in then left without saying a word. When she did speak, she said, “Put some clothes on and we’ll go eat.”

There was a coffee shop downstairs, a dinning room, and a small bar in the lobby. The dinning room wasn’t open yet so they went to the bar for a drink. Mike had two cappuccino’s. He could have a drink anywhere but Holland was one country where it was impossible to get a bad cup of coffee. They didn’t say much at the bar but after dinner they had coffee and talked. Carol seemed be a bit friendlier now. After a short period of quiet she said, “I called Phyllis back in California about the guy who tripped over the lamp cord in the room. She said that was good. It would prove to all parties that you are indeed Jack and not a substitute. How did he happen to get tangled up in the cord like that?”

“I’ll be darned if I know.”

“Yeah, I’ll bet. Tomorrow morning we’re going by train into Amsterdam and do a little sight seeing. I’m assuming you’ve never been here before. Right?”

“Right. I’ve read a lot about it though. I’d like to take the canal ride and I’d also like to go to the museum where they have all the Rembrandt paintings.”

“OK, we’ll do it.

“What about the meeting in Copenhagen?”

“They’ll let me know when it’s ready. It may be a day or two. In the mean time let’s enjoy the time while we can.”

The next day they went down to the dinning room were they had a breakfast Buffett. After breakfast they walked over to the train station Carol had shown him the day before. They went in, bought tickets, then went downstairs to the trains. One was pulling in just as they reached the platform. They went in and found a seat. The train was very clean which surprised Mike. It was very pleasant. About half way to Amsterdam Mike asked Carol if someone was going to take their tickets. She said, “Probably not. Sometimes they randomly check but not too often. They go by the honor system. And it works. If they find someone on the train without a ticket they can be pretty nasty sometimes. Some people like to stay in one of the downtown hotels but I prefer to stay out at the airport then take a short train ride into town. It’s much less expensive and a lot quieter.”

They got off right in downtown Amsterdam. Carol said, “First we’re going to stop at one of the many sidewalk cafes. One thing I’ve learned about you is that you like the local coffee. They sat down at a table right on the street and ordered espresso. Carol looked like she wasn’t very relaxed. She kept looking down at her coffee not saying much. Mike broke the silence, “We’re sitting here having coffee so we can be exposed, aren’t we? You want people to see us don’t you?” She looked up at him but didn’t say anything. If that’s the case, you’ve been successful.” He jumped out of his chair and dove at her knocking her to the ground just as the bullets started filling the air. The glass was flying, people were screaming, then every thing got quite. Mike was laying on top of her face to face. “Under different condition, this would be quite pleasant.”

“Don’t you think it’s safe to let me up now?”

“Yeah, I guess.”

There was glass all over the place. After a quick check it was found that nobody had been hurt. That was some kind of a miracle. Carol said, “It might be a good idea to leave here quickly while everything is still in a state of chaos. There may be some questions we won’t want to answer.” They got up and walked down the street. Carol said, “Do you want to go back to the hotel?”

“No, I want to go on a boat ride and I want to go to the museum.”

“OK, it’s up to you. Let’s go.”

“That’s what they want you to do isn’t it?”

“Yes.”

“Well let’s do it.”

They were sitting in their room that night talking about this and that. Carol had become friendlier since the shoot out. They talked about everything except the shoot out. They’d both had a nice time that day. Carol had taken the canal boat ride many times and also been to the the museum but this was the first time she’d really enjoyed it. They talked about what they’d seen and done that day. Mike decided it was time to talk about the other event. “Carol, I was supposed to get it today, you know.”

“Yes.”

“You almost got it yourself, you know.”

“Yes.”

“Was that in the game plan too?

“What game plan? Oh hell. No it wasn’t! How come you’re so damned smart?”

“Darned if I know.”

“Just what do you think the game plan is?”

“I think that Jack, who really isn’t confined to a wheel chair at all, is going to the real meeting while I’m being used as a decoy so they’ll be following me instead of him. If I got killed, that would be all the better. Jack is dead and they stop looking for him. He completes the assignment and I go six feet under. I’m assuming the real meeting is somewhere very close to where my fictitious meeting is supposed to be held. The bad guys know where the real meeting is supposed to take place so we eventually have to go there, unless I can get knocked off sooner.”

“Jack, or Mike, you two are alike in many ways and completely opposite in others. You both have the same sharp, Sherlock Holmes mind but your personalities are totally different. Jack is cold and calculating. You are thoughtful and care for others but can be hard when it becomes necessary. Jack is hard by nature but can be thoughtful and caring when it becomes necessary. You’re absolutely correct on everything you just said. You were set up. As you said, if you were killed, it would be all the better. I was to stay with you and put you in harm’s way and at the same time keep myself out of harm’s way. If it hadn’t been for your quick reaction, we would both be dead. How did you know Jack was not confined to a wheel chair?”

When I first met him he was moving about his office in a wheel chair. Once when he needed something in a hurry he forgot himself and pushed himself over to the file cabinet with his feet. People who are paralyzed from the waist down can’t move their feet the way he did. I got a bit suspicious then and started watching things a little closer. Started thinking, too. They pulled a stranger off the street, an amateur in the spy business, gave him a one day rush course, and sent him off to the wars. It didn’t make sense. It didn’t take long to put it all together.”

“So why did you go along with it?”

“The money for one thing. The adventure for another.”

“Was the money worth getting killed for?”

“I hadn’t planned to get killed. Still don’t.”

“Are you going to continue after two attempts on your life?”

“Yes. I agreed to do it, so I will. Are you going to stick with me?”

“Do you still want me to, after setting you up and everything?”

“I think the two of us just might get through this alive and surprise everyone, if we work together. Besides, I like having you around. Let’s go for a walk.”

“Where to.”

“I was reading some of the stuff in the drawer here and discovered that the huge half dome building a few blocks from here is an air museum. I never pass up a chance to visit an air museum.”

“Do you fly?”

“Every once in a while. Not as much as I used to. My arms get tired more quickly since I’ve gained weight.”

”Wise ass.”

They took the SAS flight to Copenhagen the next morning. They checked in at one of the SAS hotels away from the center of the city with in walking distance of the Tivoli. Right across the street from the hotel was a large park with bicycle paths. It seemed that half the people in Copenhagen rode bicycles. The main thoroughfares even had a portions of the road marked off for bicycle use only. Mike wanted to take a walk in the park but Carol wasn’t sure it was a good idea. Two days ago she would have welcomed it but now she wanted to save Mike’s life rather than get him killed. Mike said, “We want them to know we’re here don’t we? Let’s do it in the park where it’s not so crowded. We don’t want a lot of innocent bystanders killed.”

“I guess you’re right. You don’t have some kind of a death wish do you?”

“Gosh no. I just figure the best defense is a good offence. I heard a football coach say that once. I don’t really know what it means though.”

They walked through the park for a while then came to an empty bench in the sun and sat down. They sat there a while then Carol reached over and took Mike’s hand. He started to say something about not getting too close to the people you work with but he knew she’d take her hand back if did. He didn’t want that so he kept his mouth shut. A few minutes later a girl rode up on her bicycle and stopped about 30 feet from them. She took her lunch and a large thick towel out of her saddle bag and waved at them. She looked like an office girl from one of the nearby office buildings.

Mike said, “Do you see what she’s doing?”

“Yeah, why?”

“Aren’t the police going to get her or something?”

“No,” She laughed. “They do that all the time around here.”

The girl had spread out the towel on the ground, set her lunch sack down beside it, and taken off all her clothes. She was sitting on the towel in the sun eating a sandwich. When she finished her lunch she laid on her back and went to sleep. Thirty minutes later she woke up, put on her clothes, waved goodby and rode her bicycle back to her place of business. Mike said, “Well I’ll be darned.”

“I thought that was why you wanted to come out here.”

“No, but it will be tomorrow.”

And the next day they were out there again, same place, same bench. The little office lady came there again, waved, ate her lunch, and took a nude nap. Mike said, “I could get to like it here.” Carol said, “Is that the only reason you wanted to come here today?”

“No, I wanted our enemy to think we’ve developed a pattern. If they know we come here every day it might just draw them out. Have you seen a toilet around here. I shouldn’t have had all that beer with my lunch.”

“No but there are a lot of trees back there if it’s urgent.” It was. Mike headed off into the trees. While he was gone a group of people walked up. Two of them sat down on the bench and struck up a conversation with Carol. They were Americans over here on a tour. Coral didn’t consider them a threat.

But then a van drove up. A van that shouldn’t have been in the park at all. Carol did consider that a threat. The doors slid open and three people jumped out holding guns. One of them said, “Get in the van, all of you, Now!” No one argued. They all got in the van, including Carol. Mike was just coming through the trees when he saw them drive off. Mike wondered how he was going to get Carol and the others out of this mess. Carol could take care of herself but what about the others. They were innocent bystanders who got caught up in the game which was exactly what Mike had tried to prevent by going to a half deserted park. They were in the wrong place at the wrong time. He had an idea. It was going to make the nude sun bather mad as hell but there was no other choice.

All six of them were tied up in straight back chairs in an empty warehouse. One of the men, a rather muscular fellow, had been beaten up pretty badly. He was only half conscious. There were two filthy looking hoods guarding them. They’d been smashed around a bit themselves. It looked like the muscular fellow got in a few good licks before they overpowered him. The rest of the abductors were in another office getting a professional butte chewing. They’d brought back a whole gang of people but not one of them was the one they were looking for. Carol was feeling pretty depressed. She had really blown the caper and now she and a lot of innocent people were about to die. She looked around for anything that would help her form a plan. When her eyes swept the ceiling of the old warehouse she thought she saw something. She looked a little closer, trying to adjust her eyes to the light. Then she spotted him. Mike was standing there on a narrow beam holding his finger to his lips for silence,,, and grinning. Carol thought, “That bastard doesn’t take anything seriously. He’ll never make it as an agent but I’m sure glad he’s here.”

Mike played a short game of charades with Carol. He wanted her to create a diversion so he could come down and eliminate the two guards. She caught on right away. She started kicking, screaming, cursing and pulling at her ropes like she was having a fit. The two guards went over to shut her up. Mike ran along the beam like a tight rope walker. When he came to a vertical beam he wrapped his arms and legs around it and slid down like a monkey. He raced toward the two guards and leaped into the air. He came flying at them feet first. At the last second pulled his legs in and kicked out. Caught them both in the back of the head. He was sure their necks were broken but didn’t stop to find out. He untied Carol then the big guy. “What’s you’re name?”

“Tom.”

“Tom, how would you like to get even?”

“I’d love it!”

“Well let’s go get em. Carol untie the rest of the group and make sure these two don’t get up. Tom and I will be back in just a minute.” Tom was already relieving the bodies of their weapons. He looked like he’d done that sort of thing before. “Which one do you want?”

“I’ll take the pistol, you take the M16. Where are the rest of them?”

“Back there in the offices some where.”

“Are any of them worth keeping?”

“No!”

“Then let’s get rid of them all.”

They quietly walked down hall until they heard voices. They were all in one room. Four of them were looking at the floor while the fat ugly one behind the desk was screaming at them. Mike said, “Let’s give them a chance to draw first. It might look better if the authorities ever catch up with us.”

“OK but let me have the fat guy. He was planning to rape my wife after he took care of a little business.”

“He’s all yours.” They stepped in the office door and Mike said, “Hi guys.” They turned and reached for their weapons. Mike waited until they had them fully drawn then took out three of them. Tom got the fourth then emptied the clip into the fat guy. Mike smiled and said, “Let’s see how the others are.”

As they approached the group, who were all untied now, Tom said, Are you going to kill these two if they aren’t already dead?“

”I sure am, Why?”

“Just wondering. You’re a cold blooded bastard aren’t you? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining.”

“ Before you all begin feeling sorry for them, let me remind you of what they were going to do to you and you’re lovely ladies... Before they killed you all. There’s no telling how many innocent lives we just saved by putting these guys out of circulation.”

“When you put it that way it doesn’t seem so bad does it?” There was a cute little blond with her arms around Tom with tears in her eyes. Mike could see why Tom wanted first shot at the fat guy. As it turned out the two guards were dead. One of them had tried to get up but Carol walked over and kicked him in the temple.

They were all getting into the van. The same one they’d arrived in. Carol said she’d drive. She knew the city and wouldn’t get them lost. Mike said, “Wait a minute.” He walked over into the shadows and came back rolling a bicycle. Carol said, “Where did you get that?”

“Remember the naked sun bather in the park? I borrowed her bike and tailed you here to the warehouse. If I’d been in a car they would have spotted me in a minute but there are so many cyclists here they never even noticed me.”

“Did she complain about you’re borrowing her bike?”

“You better believe it. She was still yelling when I went out of sight. I told her I’d bring it back tomorrow, same time, same place. I’ll give her a large rental fee for the use of it.”

“She’ll probably be there tomorrow, all right. With the police. We don’t want that. I’ll make a couple phone calls when we get back to the hotel.”

It turned out that their new friends were staying at the same hotel Mike and Carol were. They planned to all get together in the morning for breakfast before they continued their tour. Tom had been in Special Forces in the military and was now trying to adapt to the life of a business man. They’d picked the wrong person to abduct. He was getting bored and needed a little action.

That night while relaxing in the hotel Mike said, “Well what do we do tomorrow for a diversion?”

“Nothing. We’ve done our job. The real meeting was this afternoon. It’s all over. We can go home now.”

“I don’t want to go home. I want to go the Tivoli and drink beer in one of the beer gardens, I want to ride the rides, and tonight I want to see the fireworks.”

“Poor baby. OK, momma will take you to the Trivoli tomorrow. Is this the same guy who was blowing off heads this afternoon?

They were in the park sitting on their bench talking about yesterday’s events when the bicycle girl walked up and sat down beside Mike. She had a pout on her face. “I’m mad at you. I had to walk back to the office yesterday and I had to walk back here today.”

“I’m really sorry, you know. I needed your bike very badly. I had no choice.”

“I know. I saw the van take your friends away. I knew you needed it. I see you got one of your friends back safely.”

“Got them all back safely, thanks to you’re bicycle. Without it they would all be dead now. I owe you rent on your bike, by the way.” He handed her a large wad of bills.

“I can’t take all this.” She handed it back.

“No, it’s all yours. The life of my friend is worth much more than that.”

“Well..... Thank you. I really do need this money. I need it badly. Thank you.”

We’re going to be leaving tomorrow. I’m going to miss watching you take a sun bath every day.”

Carol said, “Mike, that’s enough of that.”

“I just met her three days ago and she’s already acting like a wife.”

The girl laughed. “Well I must go now. I spent most of my lunch time walking. I hope I see you both again sometime.” She rode away.

“Nice girl wasn’t she?”

“Yes, she was. Now I want a few answers. Where did you learn to do all that stuff you did yesterday. Walking down a narrow beam like a tight rope walker. Sliding down that pole. Drop kicking those two unfortunate terrorists?”

“Oh that. The Navy sent me to a school to learn all that stuff. I flunked the course. They said I didn’t take anything seriously. Maybe they were right. Let’s go to the Tivoli. I want to ride the rides. I need some excitement.”
