Chapter 8
Long after arriving at the banquet, everyone in attendance presumed that I was Alex’s girlfriend.  Statements such as, “ So this is the lucky lady,” or, “ you two look so cute together.”
Inside I couldn’t help but to laugh hysterically at the comments they made toward us.  However on the outside, all I was capable of doing was putting a smile upon my face to show that  I didn’t mind their statements.  Hours ago, I thought I’d be hearing judgments about myself, however it seemed as if I was wrong.  They were all very interested in my purpose as to why I was the newest member on tour.   Deep down, if felt great to receive such an honor for talent.  On the other hand, it caused me to wonder if they’d ever stop.  From across the room, there stood Nick who kept switching eye contact with both me and the press.  It gave me the impression as if he were jealous of Alex.  Although, I can’t understand why.  Being with Alex here tonight, is the decision I chose to make.  It shouldn’t stir up any type of jealous emotion.
After dealing with the press, we then sat together to enjoy a very well prepared dinner.  Throughout dinner, I’d catch a glimpse of Alex starring at me as if tonight were the lat time he’d ever see me.  What causes a person to look so obvious about a situation such as this?  Is it because he or she is thinking about you, or is it done out of rudeness?  Considering that the look is coming from Alex, the only conclusion I can provide myself with is the fact that he’s thinking about me.  However, I question every minute that he continues to look at me, on what exactly is going on in his head?
“ Hey,” I said gently kicking his leg under the table.
“ Ouch, what was that for?” he asked.
“ Some people would like to enjoy their dinner without having someone stare at them constantly.”
“ I’m sorry, I just can’t help it.”
Just as I was about to continue on with my meal, Nick gently nudged as he handed me a folded, white piece of paper.  Taking the paper from him, he then excused himself from the table.  Once unfolding the piece of paper, I then allowed my eyes to follow the written message:

Meet me out back in 5 min. there’s something I would to ask you.
                                                                                             -Nick

“I’ll be right back Alex.”
“ Where are you going?” he asked.
“ To the ladies room, I won’t be long.”
“ Ok, I’ll be here waiting for you then,” he said.
Once reading the provided note given to me from Nick, I couldn’t help but to wonder for what purpose was it so important that I must meet him outside.  Deep down, I received a feeling that I was making a mistake.  There was just something about it that simply didn’t feel right.  Reaching the exit, I took a deep breath then let myself out.
“ You wanted to see me?” I asked.
“ Yeah,” he said approaching me.
“ Try to make it quick, I told Alex I wouldn’t keep him waiting.”
“What are you doing after the banquet? he asked.
“ I’m not sure yet, why?”
“ I was just wondering if you’d like to spend the rest of the night with me,” he proposed.
“ I don’t know Nick,” I replied, “ I can’t afford to stay out late and  reminisce with you tonight Nick.”
“ Please, for me?” he begged.
“ Nick, I just can’t,” I stated, “ I would if I didn’t have to be up early in the morning.”
“ I promise I won’t keep you out too late.”
“ There’s no way of you shutting up, now is there?” I joked.
“ Not by a long shot.”
“ Nick, cut me some slack here! I’d really like to go, but tonight just isn’t the night.”
“ Please?”
“ My God, you just don’t give up do you?” I laughed.
“ I hoping you’d say yes so that I wouldn’t have to beg anymore.”
“ Fine, I’ll think about it.”
“ Really?” he questioned.
“ I’ll call you if my answer is yes, ok?”
“ That’s fine with me,” he smiled, “ Is there any way possible that I could help persuade you into saying yes?”
“ Not by a long shot Nick.”
“ How about this?” he said cupping my face with his hands as he kissed me gently.
“ Nick, stop!” I said pushing him away, “ What do you think you’re doing?!”
“ Kissing you, what else did it look like?”
“ Why?!”
“ I thought-” he said getting cut off.
“ You know what, never mind!  I am not going to bother hearing your excuses!”
“ Michelle wait, just let me explain.”
“ What’s there to explain Nick?” I said turning my back on him as I began my journey to the exit door,
“ This conversation is over.”
“ Since when has falling in love been considered a crime?!” he yelled.
Falling in love?  With me?  Not knowing what to say at the exact moment of hearing his confession, I was simply unable to make a single move.  My legs felt as if they were glued to the ground, while my mind keep questioning itself on whether or not I actually heard what Nick said.  Perhaps, I was just hearing things, or maybe I just heard it wrong.
“ What did you say?” I said turning to him.
“ I think I’m falling in love with you Michelle,” he answered.
“ Love?” I questioned.
“ Yes,” he replied, “ I’m sorry for kissing you the way that I did.  I should’ve asked before doing it and I apologize for my actions.”
“ Love?” I asked.
“ Yes, I know it sounds absurd, but it’s true.”
“ How is that possible, you barely know me Nick?”
“ I wish I could provide you with an answer, but to be honest with you, I wish I knew the answer myself.”
“ I can’t listen to this Nick,” I muttered, “ I can’t fall in love with anymore right now, I just can’t.”
