| Green Day Founded in 1989 Members: Billie Joe Armstrong Mike Dirnt (originally Mike Pritchard) Tre Cool (originally Frank Edwin Wright III)...i can see why he changed his name The band was originally called Sweet Children. it all started one day in 1987 by two 14 year old punks name Billie Joe and Mike.They did some stuff and their first EP was released and it was titled Sweet Children. Mike's mom was a druggie so to avoid getting in trouble he moved in with Billie (just a little something to impress your friends with: Mike smoked his first joint at age 7). Their drummer was John Kiffmeyer. They released 3 more EPs with him as drummer. As their popularity grew they then decided to change their name to Green Day, the band we all know and love today. $600 was put into the making of their first album titled 39/smooth which was later chaged to 1,039/smoothed out slappy hours when they added some extra tracks from their previous EPs on to the album. Then when they were 17 they got officially screwed. Should they go to a boring college and get a dull job or continue on in their pursuit of fame and fortune? Well John decided to be stupid and he left the band and continued his education. But mike and billie stayed with the dream. Then they hired Tre Cool to be their permanent drummer. They quickly came out with their 2nd album, Kerplunk!.... Yada yada yada... more stuff happened and then they signed with reprise records and released their 3rd album dookie. Their next album was insomniac. It included many hits such as Brain Stew and Geek Stink Breath. they ended up canceling their touring for the album near the end of the tour claiming their reason being "exhaustion" They took 2 years to calm down and then released their 5th album nimrod, which contained the suprise smash hit Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) Then they went into a rough 3 years of making their latest album titled warning, which we all know has caused some minor contraversy. biography done by Jake |
