 | Revolutionary Campaigns:In 1792, the battalion was posted to l'Armee des Ardennes, commanded by General La Fayette. It fought at the battle of Jemappes; 6 November 1792 and then served as the garrison of Namur. After the defeat of the FGrench at the battle of Neerwinden; 18 March 1793 the battalion went into Charlemont and thence to te defence of Valenciennes; 25 May - 23 July 1793. After the town capitulated they went to Laon and then the Vendee. In 1794, it served in l'armee du Nord. The first amalgamation (16 April 1794) it became the 2eme Bn, 85eme Demi-Brigade-de-Bataille together with the 1er Bn, Volunteers de la Haute-Marne and the 5eme du Bas-Rhin. From 1795-96 it served with l'Rmee de l'Ouest. In 1797 with both l'Armee de l'Ouest and l'Armee des Alpes. The second amalgamation resulted in the formation being renamed the 34eme Demi-Brigade-de-Ligne together with the old 148eme, the 1er and 2eme Bns, 67eme Regiment d'Infanterie de Ligne, the 3eme Bn, Volunteers de Seine-et-Oise, 3eme Bn, d'Arras and the 2eme de Paris. From 1798-99 served in l'Armee d'Italie. In 1800 it was distinguished at the skirmish of St Jacques; 20 April 1800 and also fought at the clash of Monte Calvo; 20 May 1800 and in the clashes on the Var River; 22-27 May 1800. In 1803 it became the 34eme Regiment d'Infanterie de Ligne. |
