Image of the month
It is a known fact that everyone will have a
different opinion on which image is the best.
I am not trying to pick the best image, but picking an image that I personally liked.
I am sure that we will all agree on the fact that this is an excellent image!

In April 1998, I visited Algonquin
Provincial Park in Ontario. While the Park is famous for its great moose population,
it supports a variety of other wildlife, including wolves and foxes. While driving
through the Park, I spotted this fox. After a little observation and shooting some
less than satisfactory images, I realized that it was intent on retrieving some food
scraps left by careless tourists near the road, a mouthful at a time, retreating and
returning repeatedly. I began to manuever myself to a good shooting position where
the light would be coming from behind me. With my Tamron 300mm f2.8 and Minolta
700si mounted on a rifle stock, I assumed a cross-legged sitting position (those with
military training will know this position) which was very stable for shooting and gave me
a great eye level shot at the fox. Because the photo was so early in the spring, no
green growth is apparent and the photo has a fall look to it, even though it was shot in
April. Although I felt a little guilty about taking advantage of the inappropriate
activity of the tourists who had left the food, I liked the end result and hope you will,
too. --Ken Maher |
