This is an interesting book, though it probably only has limited use. It comes out in a nice, quality hardback binding. The big problem with that is, I expected it to be a little better due to this fact. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very glad they put it out in hardback, as it will probably outlive all of my paperback sourcebooks. I just look at it in relation to the other hard cover sourcebooks: Imperial Sourcebook, Main Rulebook, Rebel Sourcebook, Tails of the Jedi Sourcebook, etc….and I see this one to be lacking something. Probably the lack of any color pictures inside had something to do with this. I know, it doesn’t seem like much, but it makes a difference to some.
So what does this book have? A lot of information. It’s got the exploits of Han Solo and Chewbacca, and a history of the Corporate Sector….an area of space that this whole book “takes place in”. It’s got a lot of information on the Corporate Sector Authority, the “bad guys” of the book, and has character stats for some of the people in there. There’s also character stats for various other people...mainly both sides of the conflict in the Corporate Sector. There are some new aliens in this book that players can play, and fairly extensive sections on starships, vehicles and personal equipment. All in all, some really good stuff.
One case in point about this book, the Corporate Sector uses some older technology, and this is a good reference for determining stats for some home-grown “old style” ships, which pre-date the Empire. There’s even a section for creatures in here...a section that is kind of rare in the Star Wars books overall.
This book is good, well put together (mostly), and has great ideas for equipment and ships, it’s just that if you’re not playing in the Corporate Sector, the information may be of limited use. This is fairly typical of the “whatever sector” type of books.
