Honestly, this is probably one of my favorite books. It does, however, rate as one of those books that is recommended by a lot of people. The reason for this is that it offers a LOT of information about the Empire.
The Second Edition version is a nice, hard-bound copy, with good illustrations and some full-color inserts. I also had the 1st Edition, but it was a soft-bound version and eventually fell apart. The Second Edition is a whole lot better, though, even though it’s basically the same book.
Anyway, on to the summary. A good book! It’s got information about a great many Imperial functions, including their Intelligence operations, the Army, the Navy, and...of course, Stormtroopers! The book contains a wealth of information on the make-up of the Imperial fleet and Imperial Army. There is an incredible amount of ships in here, and a good visual comparison for all of them too. There are some stats for land vehicles as well, but in this area, I found it kind of lacking. The book omitted two of the most popularly recognized land vehicles out there: The AT-AT and AT-ST (Scout Walker).
There is also a small section on equipment, but not as thorough as I would have liked. Information on starships are also severely lacking (ie. non-existant), but that information can be found in the Main Rulebook, so it’s lack here isn’t that critical. Same probably also applies to the above two land vehicles. As a whole, the book has a great Table of Organization for the military, but is deficient in some areas.
