The best way to describe this book is to say it contains alien statistics. It has descriptions of the race, the usual game stats for each, and a decent drawn picture for each. Personally, I find these pictures of the aliens to be superior in their appearance than the later collection of Alien Races.
This book has a pretty good selection of aliens in it, including some that are already detailed in the Main Rulebook, such as the Rodians and Mon Calamari. There are others here, though, that are actually pretty good races for players to choose. There are 42 races in this book, including the much-desired Defel.
Now my opinions—this book, while done nicely, is lacking. I think they should have either done all of the races, or they should have done a more thorough job of the races from A to M or so, and then done a second book with the remaining N to Z. As it is, this book hops all over the place. A little smattering here and there of the races managed to touch on some, but not cover a whole bunch. So, if you want a couple races, done up with decent art, then this book is good.
