Jedi Academy Sourcebook

This book is an anomaly. It’s a hardbound book, so it’s of decent quality. Nice cover, and eludes to the fact that it will have lots of information on Jedi. It doesn’t!

This is the beginning of the “ridiculous” stories that West End Games did supplements for. There are a lot of character stats in here for people from the trilogy of books by Kevin J. Anderson, but nothing in the way of character templates.

There’s a teeny section of Force Powers in the book, but nothing to give me any real satisfaction as to why this whole thing is about the Jedi Academy. To it’s credit, there is a fairly extensive section on creatures in here. A “scrunchy” section on vehicles, and a slightly large section for starships. It also has information on a fair number of planets, which could prove to be useful if you like going to familiar places.

What’s bad about the book is the decided LACK of information on Jedi. This book also contains the, in my opinion, ridiculous Sun Crusher. This starship is an example of what NOT to do when you’re making your own ships. It’s also got the “return of Exar Kun” (shudder). For those of you unfamiliar, he lived a long time ago, back when the Republic was relatively young. I can swallow the Emperor doing something like this...not Exar Kun. But...if you’re looking for this information, or like super powered things, this book is for you.

One other thing about this book...if you’ve got a fair number of other books, chances are you have the same information on a lot of the equipment, droids and starfighters that are in here. I’d suggest saving your money unless you want the book in order to play in the era of the Jedi Academy trilogy.

My rating:

One Yoda
