This section will detail the information that can be given out to the players. Information is italics will be for one briefing in particular (either Campbell's or Freemont's).
The player group will see a picture of Stehnkov, (either on paper or by slide projector) and they will be told that General Boris Stehnkov, the ex-commanding officer of the Soviet 43rd Cavalry Division has taken up residence in the area. He has amassed a small army of troops that are loyal to his ideals, and are willing to help carry out his nefarious plans.
Another picture (or slide) is shown, this one of a large dome and recognizable funnel of a nuclear power plant. It is daylight in the picture, and a couple of vehicles and about a dozen people can be seen inside of a fenced compound. "This station is one of only a handful of nuclear power stations still in existance in Poland. The thing that makes this one special is that it is operational. It lies a little more than 5 km from the town to the northeast, along the coast. Before the war, it was shut down and the surrounding towns used an old, coal power station. The hope was that the station wouldn't be bombed because it was deactivated. The plan worked, but now someone has started it back up. The Soviets, and a suspected attachment of GRU agents, have been "recruiting" local help to bring the station back on line. The purpose for this, other than electrical power, is unknown. Most of the surrounding populace are not thrilled with the idea, and are unwilling to assist the Soviets, but are being forced to work, and shot if they do not.
Another picture, this time a closer shot of the compound, shows armed Soviets soldiers walking on the other side of a chain link fence. The fence is topped with barbed wire, and a pair of spotlights can be seen mounted on posts. The look of the Soviet soldier indicates that the guards are at least semi-competant. "General Stehnkov has been seen entering the compound and is assumed to be in charge of the operation."
"Stehnkov is holed up in a refurbished castle about 2 1/2 km northwest of here. The castle if well kept, and could hold as many as 40 troops inside of it." A picture (slide) of the castle, surrounded by a wide, cleared area is shown to the group. "It is also possible that Stehnkov has a helicopter at his disposal, but we cannot confirm that yet." For the group with Campbell: "The helicopter is a MI-24 Hind-D, but don't worry, he hasn't got any fuel for it."
The next picture is that of a supply column of 6 Soviet Ural 375 trucks, and about 15 soldiers mounted on horses. "The reason you're here is because of this convoy. Our sources tell up that it is loaded with artillery shells. And not just any shells-- chemical shells! Stehnkov has got a nasty plan up his sleeve, and I feel that it has something to do with our guys on the front." For the group with Freemont: Our plan is to find out what his plan is, and put a stop to it. To our knowledge, he has no artillery, so his method of delivery for these shells is unknown. That's something we need to find out."
For the group with Campbell: "That is all the information I have at this time. As more intelligence makes it to me, I will be able to better brief you. Until then, you need to make every effort to find out what Stehnkov's exact plans are and put a stop to them. If you need to contact me, simply come back to this town and call out my name. In extreme emergencies only, you can reach me on the radio. Use frequency 90.5 megaherz and call for 'Stars and Stripes'. That is all I have. The fate of the northern allied front rests in your hands."
For the group with Freemont: "My men and I will assist when able, but they are not really trained in any sort of covert operations. And Stehnkov knows of me, so I can't be seen. It's up to you to find Stehnkov, learn his plans, and inform us so that we can launch a strike in conjunction with your attack on the General. There is no option for you to take or leave this mission. If you decline, you will be responsible for the deaths of thousands of American and allied soldiers, and I will shoot you myself. Our only hope is to stop this madman before his plan is completed!"
