port

Sailing with the wind coming from the left side of your direction of travel.

starboard

Sailing with the wind coming from the right side of your direction of travel.

reach

Sailing across wind. Going at eactly 90 degrees to the wind is a beam reach. Going a bit downwind is a broad reach. Going a bit upwind is a close reach.

run

Sailing downwind.

beat

Sailing a course where you make progress upwind.

luff

Sailing closer to the wind than is efficient so the buggy goes slow or stops.

scrub

Scrubbing speed is skidding sideways (usually pointing upwind) to loose speed.

class 8

Parakarting is recognised by FISLY as a "class 8" type land yacht.

FISLY

International Federation of Sand and Land Yachting. The federation provides common international 'rules of the road' so landyachts of all classes (including class 8) can safely use the same beach without colisions. The Fed also provide common race rules and organise European and World race events.

jibe

Changing direction in a downwind turn until the wind blows from the other side of your buggy. Sometimes spelt gybe or gibe.

tack

Changing direction in an upwind turn until the wind blows from the other side of your buggy.
Tacking can also refer to zig-zagging upwind, more normally referred to as beating.
