Q: Can you teach me how to hex?
A: I have some hexing tutorials under the Learn link, but you do need to know how to work a hex editor to use them. I recommend starting to learn how to hex at Bible Petz because the instructions are really in-depth. After that, you check out some hexing tutorials at the Petz Source, Raven's Petz Place, and here at Gringo Kennelz, too.
Q: I was following your hexing instructions, and it says to search for an ANSI string. I use Hex Workshop, and I can't find ANSI string anywhere!
A: Hex Workshop uses ASCII strings instead of ANSI strings found in AXE.
Q: How do you unstick a pregnancy?
A: Open up your Petz game, but don't bring out any pets. Right click on the time in the lower right corner of the screen. Choose Adjust Date/Time on the menu that pops up. Set the date ahead one year, then click OK. Bring out your mom, and she should have her babies! Just make sure you don't set the date back a year, or else she will be stuck forever in her pregnancy. This means you can't set the date back to the real year until you close out of the game.
Q: How do you make litters in Petz 3/4?
A: Make sure the mom you want to use for the litter is put away. Then, under the Petz menu, choose Copy Pet. Select the mom from the list. Make a copy for each puppy/kitten you want. Then, breed the original mom and her copies. After they all have their babies, you can return all the extra copies of the mom. If you make copies of the mom after she gets pregnant, you can make identical twin, triplets, whatever!
Q: Will you hex a dog/cat for me?
A: It depends how busy I am and how complicated you want it to be. However, if I do hex a pet for you, you'll have to give me something in return.
Q: I have some pets I can't take care of anymore. Will you take them for me?
A: Of course! No pets are turned down a home at Gringo Kennelz. Send me their pictures, and I'll put them up for adoption here.
Q: Can you teach me HTML?
A: I learned from experience that it can be very difficult to give personal HTML lessons over the internet. However, I'll be happy to answer any specific HTML questions you have. Just fill out the form at the bottom of the page.
Q: My pet ran away! How do I get him back?
A: If you have Petz 5, you can check the Lost and Found board by the Adoption Center to see if your pet was found. Otherwise, check out the Games Tips page for instructions on getting him back.
Q: Will you review my site?
A: I had to take down the reviews section of my site because I got too many requests, and I didn't have time to do them all.
Q: Where did you get your site name from?
A: When I started my account at Geocities, I had no idea what to call my new site. Then I realized that address would have to be oocities.com/gringo_1us because I was already registered with Yahoo under that name. I decided to call it Gringo Kennelz then to match up with the address. If you want to know how the whole gringo thing came about, click here.
Q: How do you get rid of the border around linked images?
A: In your img tag, add border="0". Here's an example of what it would look like: <img src="image.gif" width="100" height="100" border="0">.
Q: How do I get frames for my website? Can I make frames on Page Builder?
A: Frames are pretty easy to make, but the HTML code will change depending on how you want them to look. And, yes, you can make frames on Page Builder with absolutely no knowledge of HTML. If you're interested in getting frames, email me with a description of how you would like them laid out, and I'll send you the HTML.
Q: How can I get people to come to my site?
A: Gringo Kennelz gets most of its hits from the Petz Top 50 and the Update Network. If you aren't a member of either of them, I'd recommend joining. Other things you can do to gain exposure are to include your URL in your email signature, ask some of your favorite sites to link to you, and apply for awards and reviews. Once people start visting, you can keep them coming back by maintaining a decent amount of content on your site, updating frequently, and replying to your site-related emails as soon as you can.
If you have a question that's not up here, fill out the form below to ask me, and I'll email you the answer. All popular questions will be posted here in future updates.
