Black silicon carbide is the perfect material specificaly
manufactured for general abrasive applications in bonded and
coated abrasive tools.It is widely used for grinding nonferrous
materials,finishing tough and hard materials and used as a filler
in ceramic parts when processing cost is important.
Chemical Properties
HCl, HF, HNO3 and H2SO4 do
not attack Silicon Carbide.
SiC has excellent deoxidation properties in iron melts. Exposed
to temperatures around 1000oC Silicon Carbide is
oxidized by air and oxygen. The formation of a SiO2
layer decelerates the oxidation rate.
SiC dissolves in alkaline and alkaline oxidizing melts.
Chemical Composition depending on type, size, etc. of finished
SiC products, (different grit-sizes for abrasive applications,
SiC splits and fine powder sizes for refractory applications)
