| Now the focus of many RAF fighters are on the few that grabbed the limelight such as the Spitfire, Hurricane, Typhoon and Mustang. Biplanes operated in the RAF right up until a few months before declaration of war in September 1939 and continued to operate in places such as the Middle East, North Africa and the Norway Campaign. They are posted in date of construction/operation order (i hope :D) |
| The Bristol Bulldog entered service in 1929 until 1937 equipping about 10 RAF squadrons all over the world. It served as both a frontline fighter, night fighter and bomber. The Bulldog was also extensively exported to other countries |
| Powered by a 440hp Bristol Jupiter VII radial engine the Bulldog was capable of a max 174 mph. Like the majority of RAF Biplanes it had a Watts fixed pitched propellor. |
| A flight of Bulldog fighters. The Bulldog was usually armed with 2 synchronised Vickers machine guns or 4 x 20lb bombs. |
| The Hawker Fury II. The Fury first entered RAF service in 1931 and was replaced in 1939. It was powered by a 525hp Rolls-Royce Kestrel IIS engine making it the first RAF fighter to exceed the 200mph mark. |
| A flight of Fury II's used as Trainers after the introduction of the new monoplane Hurricane fighter. The Fury was soley employed as a day fighter and was fitted with 2 x 0.303 Browning machine guns. The Fury equipped 6 RAF squadrons. |
| The Hawker Demon two- seater fighter that operated alongside the Hawker Fury. Entered RAF service in 1933 and were withdrawn around about 1938. Powered by the Rolls-Royce 485hp Kestrel IIS inline engine it was capable of 182mph. |
