The Hurricane I prototype        K5083. First flew on 6th Nov   1935. The first proper RAF      monoplane fighter.
The first Hurricane I's to roll     of the production line went to   No. 111 Squadron seen here.
An early Hurricane I, notice       RAF colours cover the whole    of the rudder. At first they        still hosted a two-bladed            wooden propellor and a             stretched fabric airframe.
Easy maintenance in the field        was one of the strengths of the      Hurricane. Seen here undergoing    checks to its Merlin III engine it    could only reach speeds of about  330mph.
A lovely              banking turn        shot of an            early Hurricane   I
During the Battles of France      and Britain the Hurricane was    found wanting against the Me    109, but found its role in            taking out the hordes of              Bombers flying across the          channel whilst the Spitfires        dealt with the escort.
Scramble!! Two Hurricane I's    take off during the Battle of      Britain. Though the Spitfire      grabbed many of the headlines  the Hurricane in fact                  destroyed more enemy aircraft  in the Battle of Britain than       any other defense unit, air or     ground, combined.
Gun camera film showing how  devastating the 8 x .303             browning machine guns could    be. The unfortunate victim is a  Heinkel He 111 with bits          flying off and smoke pouring    out of his starboard engine.
