Mondo Grosso, is a band formed in Kyoto in 1989 with Shinichi Osawa as
the band leader and bassist. Osawa and various vocalists and collaborators
- ranging from
Monday Michiru,
Bird,
Jhelisa,
N'dea davenport to
Tania Maria and Ed Motta- produce some of the most stylish acid jazz, house,
and R&B made in Japan during the '90s. He released his first Mondo Grosso
material during 1992-1993, including his self-titled debut album on Japan's
For Life imprint. Its globetrotting flair (indebted to American disco and
R&B, acid jazz, and brazilian samba) lead a vanguard of mature Japanese
dance music. |
