For
around 2 years, Techno Grouch has had many
incarnations.
Very few made it on to the web.
What
originally inspired me to make this site?
The answer is to prove that I could do it.
I had been told by a friend of their own website.
When looking at it, I thought I would like
to do a site. So I did. Around the same time,
my dad had started dabbling with web design,
using a freeware text program called Arachnophilia.
This was text based page editing, and is the
reason I know the basics of HTML.
The original Grouch Land (as it was then called)
had very little on it. A few animations of
a cartoon cat, originally intended as the
mascot, midi files and a little javascript
game.
The
next incarnation was quite different. It had
probably even less on it, but in design terms
was much better. The first one had been to
prove I could do it. With this one, I concentrated
on the graphical side of things. I included
a review of a concert and scans of some preview
cinema tickets. This is as far as it came.

The
next version was possibly the biggest leap
in design terms. I moved onto a new server,
primarily because my schools internet system
blocked home directories (e.g. "something.com/~thisisahomedirectory").
Another reason was the shorter domain (www.oocities.org/grouch1986).
The biggest advance was the technology it
used, Flash! Although there was very little
content, the startup animation was one of
my proudest animations ever. I also began
to use Dreamweaver 3. A WYSIWYG editor. This
was the point where Grouch Land became Techno
Grouch.
Many
versions of this last site were made.Perhaps
the best one, was made in July of 2001. Unfortunately,
this was up for only a few weeks. It contained
pictures from my Duke of Edinburgh expedition,
and a greater amount of interactivity. Unfortunately,
by the end of the six weeks holiday, I had
took it down.
During this time, I had joined a band, Sunstar.
The website I created for this had a lot of
creative designs in it's time. Unfortunately,
it became quite popular to take the mick out
of at my school. Everyone knew the address
and the amount of abuse I got for it prompted
me to take it down. I may have remade it,
but the hosts, 20m.com had stopped FTP uploading,
a service I frequently used. The site moved
to another host, .ionichost. Around this time,
my interest in the band had faded and the
site online at the moment is little more than
a skeleton.
That
brings us to today. Where I use Dreamwever
4, Flash 5 and try to make the best designs,
using the best use of colour, with content
equally as good.
Some
examples I have worked on since October, but
never made it to the web can be seen below.
