William was single and never married at the time of his death. A sister, Sarah Belchil of McMinnville TN is listed as next of kin. Henenrolled on Dec. 15, 1863, at the age of 18, being 5'4' tall, with a fair complexion, blue eyes, fair hair, and palce of birth not known. Later he says he was born in Kentucky.He is listed as joining in Tennessee and mustered out on Aug. 1, 1865. Prisoner of War records show him captured at Morristown TN Nov. 14, 1864, brought from Danville, confined in Richmond, VA. Was in confinement at Danville Feb. 12-20, 1865. Confined at Morristown Tenn., date not given - paroled at James River, VA Feb. 22, 1865. On his Declaration for Pension , June 28, 1913, William says he is 68 yrs. old, was honorably discharged at Nashville, Tenn., says he has lived in New Orleans, Galveston, Pittsburg, Cincinnati. William says (on April 2, 1915) that he was born in Louiville, KY on Feb. 17, 1845, that he never married.
