He was buried on 15 Feb 1914 in Stockton, Rooks Co., Kansas. ⁽³¹¹⁾ His headstone on Block 73, Lot 3, Grave 4, reads: "Alpheus Grovenburg, Company A, 9th Regiment Illinois Infantry, Died Feb 16, 1914, 68 yrs."

He was married to Jane (Elvira Jane) Woodruff (daughter of John Woodruff and Phoebe) on 15 Sep 1867 in Brady Village, Kalamazoo Co., Michigan.⁽³¹²⁾

Jennie Woodruff is bride's maiden name, age 15, born Kendalville, Noble, Indiana. Alpheas Grovenburgh was 20 years old, a resident of Brady Village, occupation farmer. He was born in "Little." They were married by Samuel Hawkins, Justice of the Peace. Witnesses were Charles Deyarmond of Brady Village & Maranda Hawkins, of Brady Village. He was divorced from Jane (Elvira Jane) Woodruff on 30 Nov 1882.⁽³¹³⁾

Jane (Elvira Jane) Woodruff was born between Mar 1847 and 1853 in Kendalville, Wayne Twp., Noble, Indiana. ^(314)(315) Conflict: her birthdate as given in 1900 Census- is Mar 1853, but her birthdate as calculated from age in 1880 census is 1847. 1880 Census - Jane Grovenburg, age 32y, bpl MI-- (however, if she is really 32 y in 1880, she would have been 19 when she married, not 15, as her marriage record states.)
1900 Census - Elvira J. Shirley, age 47, married 30y, born Mar 1853 in Ind.; mother of 14 children, 6 still living, parents birthplaces are unknown.
1910 Census - Jennie, wife, age 55, 2nd marriage 25y, mother of 14 children, 5 still living, born Indiana, parents' birthplace Indiana.
1920 Census - Jennie Shirley, wife, age 66, married, born in Indiana; father born in France, mother born in Ireland, her occupation is carpet-weaver. (I am assuming either she has received new information on her parent's backround, or that the census-taker miscopied this information onto the wrong line.)

Death - William G. Grovenburg's uncle Jake said that she died about 1927 at age of 87 years... and that she was possibly buried in Stockton Cemetery, Rooks Co., KS. Alpheus Grovenburgh and Jane (Elvira Jane) Woodruff had the following children:

"Christian;" Eva Linninger, age 21, bpl Hardin Co., Iowa, keeping house, Christian; Andrew Linninger, age 19, bpl Hardin Co., Iowa, farmer, Christian, subject to military duty; William Linninger, age 17, bpl Hardin Co., Iowa, farmer, Baptist; Annie Linninger, age 12, bpl Hardin Co., Iowa, Baptist; Joseph, age 9, bpl Hardin Co., Iowa; Claud D. Linninger, age 7, bpl Franklin Co., Iowa." Mary Simpson was born about 1853 in Indiana.⁽³¹⁸⁾ She died in 1907 in Rooks Co., Kansas.⁽³¹⁹⁾ She died in 1907 according to affadavit by step-son John A. Grovenburg, in pension papers of Alpheus.
