The coins we make are not cheap castings - nor any kind of casting! Our coins are made in the original way, struck by hand from dies created in the medieval manner. We produce coins from all time periods during which they were made by hammering (so-called ‘hammered’ coins). The major historical periods we cover are from Celtic times to the end of the Tudor period. During the English Civil War, besieged towns struck ‘siege pieces’ in the manner of hammered coins, and we make these as well. Designs are carefully made in the same way the medieval moneyers worked, pewter blanks are hand-cut too. The material used is silver (if you’re rich and want total authenticity) or lead-free pewter as an economical alternative. Both these materials have the look and feel of the original coins. For gold coins we can use the real thing, or compromise with copper or brass instead. Because they are all individually hand-struck, our coins have the same weight and handle in the same way as early coins. If you have seen cast replicas, you will be surprised at the difference! For re-enactors, we believe that even the smallest details should bear inspection, and you can be assured that our coins are as accurate as you could possibly hope for.
