The Plot

The plot was good - very exciting and makes you want to keep watching until the end. It was more...realistic...than the other two. For example, in real life, Wu A Ge/Yong Qi probably would not have been allowed to marry Xiao Yan Zi, and in Huan Zhu 3, the Emperess Dowager forced him to marry a second time. However, I have a few objections, mostly concerning the beginning. Qiong Yao attempted to add something funny, but it really wasn't. The humor seemed too fake. There was too many "shows" during the first part that were a total waste of time. Also, the part about spirits and Er Kang's "death" dragged on for way too long. The rest was good.

The Acting and the Actors

Huang Yi/Betty ~ Xiao Yan Zi
She isn't a bad actress, and does okay in HZGG 3 during parts where she doesn't have to be humorous. But as a true Xiao Yan Zi, she is no match for Zhao Wei/Vicki. Although she has acted in a lot of comedy roles, she really should give up on that. Seeing her trying to be funny is worse than eating spinach!!! (Well, I don't hate spinach actually, but I'm just trying to make a point.) It's so fake, definitely not as natural as Zhao Wei's acting. Also, I know her job is acting, but she lacks the beauty and cuteness of Xiao Yan Zi that we all loved.

Gu Ju Ji/Leo ~ Wu A Ge/Yong Qi
I am not saying that Su You Peng/Alec was better than Gu Ju Ji/Leo, but I can't help but liking the old actors and actresses. Su You Peng had already established an image for Wu A Ge (although it was a very childish image). Gu Ju Ji brought something totally different. He wasn't bad, just a bit too much like Shu Huan (his role from Qing Shen Shen Yu Meng Meng). He looked much more mature, which is a good thing, as he is portaying an "a ge".

Ma Yi Li ~ Xia Zi Wei
Many people have already condemned me for this, but I still don't like Zi Wei very much. Ma Yi Li was okay. I cannot say that I really loved her, but she wasn't very bad. Again, however, Lin Xin Ru/Ruby had already created an image for Zi Wei and Ma Yi Li brought something that did not match that. Therefore, it was awkward seeing a totally different Zi Wei. Also, her eyes bothered me. They looked too listless, lacking the energy Lin Xin Ru's eyes had.

Zhou Jie ~ Fu Er Kang
You have probably noticed this also, but Zhou Jie smiled a lot at certain times during the show that weren't exactly funny. He acted a bit...arrogant. Maybe it's because he is one of the few old actors still playing and all of the others are new. However, I have to admit that he was good. The part when he was tortured...it seemed so real. Good thing he wasn't replaced.

Wang Yan/Rebecca ~ Qing Er
Ah...Good ole Wang Yan, one of the old peeps. Once again, she has portrayed Qing Er really well. Yes, I know I have said before in my Actor Reviews section that she was an "OK" actress. However, after I have seen the acting of some of the others, I have realized that she does a very good job on her role.

Xiao Jian ~ Huang Xiao Ming
Huang Xiao Ming was a better choice for Xiao Jian than Zhu Hong Jia was. Neither was extremely good-looking, but Huang Xiao Ming was much better looking. His acting was very well done. Sometimes, his southern Chinese was a bit awkward to listen to (or maybe somebody did the voice for him because it sounded a bit Taiwanese). (I'm not implying that there's anything wrong with southern Chinese; I'm from southern China myself.)

Di Long ~ Qian Long
I am making this statement very clear - BRING ZHANG TIE LIN BACK!!! Who is this guy? He can't even act! And he's ugly! The worst part of HZGG 3 was having to watch him attempt to portray Qian Long. He was so stiff as an actor he even made me stiff watching him. Seeing him was worse than watching Huang Yi trying to be funny.

Zhao Ming Feng ~ Empress Dowager
There's not much to say about Zhao Ming Feng because she doesn't play that big of a part. She's the same as in HZGG 2. I just don't like the character...EVIL!

The New Characters

Zhi Hua ~ Qin Lan
I aboslutely hated her! She was such a witch! She tried to steal Yong Qi from our beloved Xiao Yan Zi and even had his baby. How repugnant is that? Zhi Hua was the cause of all the problems. She pretended to be a prefect, refined lady in front of Empress Dowager, but she was actually a scheming, evil person. Zhi Hua used Empress Dowager's affection to marry Yong Qi. It served her right that Yong Qi left her in the end.

Xia Ying Ying ~ Shui Ling
Xia Ying Ying was a random character in HZGG 3. She had a short affair with Qian Long. After the royal family left Hangzhou, she was never heard of again. In other words, HZGG 3 could have gone on prefectly well without her. I would classify her as an okay character. I have no great passion for her (as a character, I mean). She was a good person though. Knowing that her marriage to the emperor would lower the emperor's greatness in the eyes of the people (since she came from a brothel), she gave up the chance she would have had as a concubine.

Mu Sha ~ Liu Tao
I disliked this Burman princess somewhat because she was in love with Er Kang (or as she called him, "Tian Ma" / "Horse of the Sky"). Mu Sha also got him addicted to cocaine, although she used it in order to help him...at first. Later, she used his addiction to keep him from going back home to Beijing. However, I do give her credit for giving up Er Kang to Zi Wei after she met her and saw how much in love the two really were. Much better than Zhi Hua!

The Music

OKAY...We are not watching "The Little Mermaid" here! What is that sound? It's not Disney! It's Huan Zhu Ge Ge, for goodness sake. Having Gu Ju Ji sing and write the main theme song for the first twenty episodes of HZGG3 was a big mistake. When I closed my eyes and really listened to it, it sounded like i was listening to a song in a Disney movie. ::sighs sadly:: I can't say much for the rest of the songs in HZGG3 either. They sounded pretty, I guess, but I could not find any real love for them.
