DVD Review:
 Updated: Tue
Aug 17  2004

In this review, I will only talk about the technical specs of the DVD. I will NOT talk about any story specs. My rating system:

*-poor

**-average

***-good

****-very good

*****-excellent

Video:

**

The video is not that great. First off, it's in Pan & Scan (full screen). The quality is not very good. When the movie just starts, it is WAY to dark, but lightens up in a little bit. In the opening credits, when you see the kid in the elevator, a couple of dark lines appear, but soon go away.

Audio:

***

The audio is ok. It's 2.0 Dolby stereo surround, and there is an audio commentary by Jim Wynorski and Steve Mitchell. The commentary is good. Fans will learn a lot of good information, some of which I've posted on this site. The commentary makes me give audio a three.

Special Features:

***

There are not many special features, but what is there is very good. The little featurette on building and using the robots in very interesting. There are multiple interviews in the featurette, including Jim Wynorski. The other features are a trailer (which has a few good scenes, included clawed protector hands, and a protector holding a human arm dragging a shopping bag) and a photo gallery including a picture of the original Killbots poster (Killbots was the original name, then later renamed Chopping Mall).

Movie

****

The movie itself in very good. This version ,compared to the Killbots version, is much better. More gore, including the 'Crispy Susie scene,' no dialog cuts, and an overall better experience.

Price:

*****

When I was going to Best But to buy my copy of Chopping Mall, I was thinking it would be $15.00 to $20.00. I was wrong. $10.00. Great price. This is another reason why fans should go out and buy the DVD now!

Rent/Buy:

If you're a fan, buy it. It's only about $10.00. If you've never seen it before or not a fan, I suggest you rent it first. Trust me, you'll regret wasting even $10.00 if you don't like the movie. By the way, if you've ever seen the 1950's SF movie Gog and enjoyed it, you'll like the movie. There are many similarities (killer robots, malfunctioning computer).
