Opening the book on love...
Hamilton woman's book, 'Potty Training to Puberty---The Pits," hits stores on July 3.
By Amy Picard
For 25 years, Georgia Sawhook kept saying she was going to write a book."There was one lady in church who told me once, 'You always say it, now start doing it!' but I never really had a chance until all of my children reached puberty," said Sawhook. Eventually, all the kids hit puberty and Sawhook got to work. On July 3, Sawhook's book finally hits the shelves. "Potty Training to Puberty---THE PITS!!! (With Hugs Along the Way)," chronicles Sawhook's experiences raising her seven children and as well as her relationship with God. "I just want to encourage and inspire people...some of the stories will inspire them and it will probably make them sad to hear some of the stories, but I want them to know it is possible," said Sawhook, 57. Sawhook, whose children are now 21 to 37, said the Lord is the "scarlet thread" running through her book---the encouragement she needed to get through each new obstacle as a mother of seven. "Without the Lord I couldn't do it. Without him I wouldn't have the strength and the wisdom and everything I needed," she said. "He is my strength and he has given me everything." Sawhook---who has been married for almost 40 years to Thomas L. Sawhook, pastor of Fellowship Bible Church in Hamilton, said she always had a special relationship with her church. "I learned a long time ago that my closest friend has to be the Lord," she said. "I just want other women to be encouraged." Putting thoughts into words has never been a struggle for Sawhook---she began by writing for women's retreats, and for four Web sites that she still maintains. Much of the material posted on her Web sites is included in her book---including more than 100 recipes. Sawhook said she not only wanted to inspire women, she wanted to provide them with information they could actually use. "You know that a large part of being a wife and mother, and when you have a large family, cooking is a very major part," Sawhook said. Although Sawhook is quick to bemoan potty training and puberty, she adds that she has been blessed and is now the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren. My mother always said to me, 'Honey, someday you will reap the harvest," she said. "Now I really am reaping such a wonderful harvest." Sawhook's book is currently available online through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Borders, Bamm.com and Waldenbooks. It will be available in stores July 3.
