PROGRESSION IN THE OUT-OF-DOORS

Girls are normally introduced to each step at the level shown. This does not mean that troops can not advance in steps. The level at which each step is introduced will depend on the interest of the scouts and the experience of both the leader and the scouts.

LOOK OUT

Ponder what the world is like outside.

MEET OUT

Look at the sun. Feel the wind. Enjoy the trees.

WALK OUT

Look for tracks and trails. Identify common trees and plants. Pinpoint pollution problems.

HIKE OUT

There are lots of different hikes. Try the Bird Hike, Rock Hike, Penny Hike, Color Hike, or maybe a Compass Hike or Historical Hike.

3rd Grade

COOK OUT

Build and light a fire. Cook a simple meal. Set up a cleaning station. Wash dishes and utensils. Talk about the next outing.

SLEEP OUT

Make a bedroll. Tie a Square knot and clover hitch. Make a kaper chart. Choose a good sleeping spot. Know Safety Rules.

CAMP OUT

Plan what to wear and take. Make needed camping equipment. Know about first aid. Practice camping skills.

Determine program activities. Pitch and strike a tent. Lash needed equipment. Clean up and break down the campsite.

Cadettes

TRIP OUT

Plan menus, route and transportation. Use road maps and compasses. Choose campsite. Learn backpacking skills.

Determine trips costs. Determine and pack equipment needed. Plan itinerary.
