17. Piedad3 Duran (Mariano4, Luciano5, Juan Rafael6, Antonio Teodoro7)(88) was born in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico September 27, 1890.(89) Piedad died January 25, 1984 in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, at 93 years of age.(90)

She married once. She married David Sanchez Chaves in San Felipe De Neri Church, Old Town, Albuquerque, New Mexico, September 6, 1909.(91) David Chavez was born in Los Chavez, New Mexico January 11, 1888.(92) David Chavez(93) was the son of José Perfecto Chaves and Juana Sánches. David Chavez died November 27, 1976 in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, at 85 years of age.(94) At 19 years of age David Chavez became the father of Annie Chaves in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, 1910.(95) At 20 years of age David Chavez became the father of David Luciano Chaves in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, September 25, 1911.(96) At 23 years of age David Chavez became the father of Alfred Duran Chavez 1914.(97) At 25 years of age David Chavez became the father of Gemma Chaves 1916.(98) At 27 years of age David Chavez became the father of Thomas Robert Chaves in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, July 9, 1918.(99) At 28 years of age David Chavez became the father of Jose Carlos Chavez February 20, 1920.(100) At 28 years of age David Chavez became the father of Jose Carlos Chavez in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, February 20, 1920.(101) At 37 years of age David Chavez became the father of Mary Constance Chaves in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, April 28, 1928.(102) At 39 years of age David Chavez became the father of Reginald F. Chaves 1930.(103) She married David Sanchez Chaves in San Felipe De Neri Church, Old Town, Albuquerque, Bernalill, September 12, 1909.(104) David Sanchez Chavez and Piedad Duran were married at San Felipe de Niri Church, the famous Old Town Church, in Albuquerque, New Mexico by Father F. Durante, S.J.

Piedad Duran was always proud of her heritage, being a direct descendant of one of the founding families of Albuquerque. She was a hard working mother, raising 12 children, all of whom acheived success in their fields. She was a very devout woman, attending the Catholic Church at San Felipe de Neri in Old Town, Albuquerque, New Mexico regularly. She was fond of church bingo and was known to be very lucky at this venture. Trips to Las Vegas were a favorite of hers.

According to her son, Alfred Chavez, she "never forgave him (her husband, David Sanchez Chaves) for the twelve children. She was miserably happy. She was always "dying"."

Piedad Duran's funeral was held at San Felipe de Neri Church in Old Town, Albuquerque, New Mexico with her family participating. Father Thomas Wilkinson was the Celebrant for the funeral. She was buried at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She lived to the age of 93 years old. She was a life long resident of Albuquerque and a descendent of one of the first families in old Albuquerque in 1706.

Piedad loved opera and frequently sang her favorites around the house.

She attended sister Blandina School and St. Vincent's Academy, and was a member of the Andres Cristianas, The Altar Sodality and the Liga del Sagrado Corazon. She was preceded in death by her husband David Sanchez Chavez and survived by six of her sons and three of her daughters.

This author remembers visiting Grandmother on Christmas eve, before touring the luminarias in the old Town area. She always had bizcochitos and and Christmas candy. Piedad was a cigarette smoker and kept a bottle of brandy in the upper cabinet of the kitchen.
