29. Mariano4 Duran (Luciano5, Juan Rafael6, Antonio Teodoro7)(199) was born in New Mexico 1860.(200) Mariano died July 1927 in At His Home, Old Town, Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, at 67 years of age.(201)

He married twice. He married Piedad Lovato. Piedad(202) is the daughter of Candelario Lobato and Maria Carlota Epimenia Garcia. He married Cleofas Lobato about 1890.(203) Cleofas was born in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico 1873.(204) Cleofas(205) was the daughter of Candelario Lobato and Maria Carlota Epimenia Garcia. Cleofas died August 1930 in Local Hospital, Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, at 57 years of age.(206) Her body was interred August 1930 in Santa Barbara Cemetery, Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico.(207) At 17 years of age Cleofas became the mother of Piedad Duran in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, September 27, 1890.(208) At 17 years of age Cleofas became the mother of Piedad Duran in Albuquerque, Bernalillo, New Mexico, September 28, 1890.(209) At 27 years of age Cleofas became the mother of Mariano Duran in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, March 11, 1901.(210) Cleofas became the mother of Canderlario Manuel Duran in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, about 1910.(211) Cleofas participated in the Funeral event August 1930 in San Felipe De Niri Church, Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico.(212)

At 30 years of age Mariano became the father of Piedad Duran in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, September 27, 1890.(213) At 30 years of age Mariano became the father of Piedad Duran in Albuquerque, Bernalillo, New Mexico, September 28, 1890.(214) At 40 years of age Mariano became the father of Mariano Duran in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, March 11, 1901.(215) Mariano became the father of Canderlario Manuel Duran in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, about 1910.(216) According to his obituary, Mariano Duran was a member of San Felipe de Neri church, his funeral being held there. Mariano's funeral serivce was under the charge of the S.N.M. De M.P., No. 1.

From the Albuquerque Morning Journal, July 16, 1927, page 16:

"Mariano Duran, aged 67 years passed away last Thurday evening at his home at Old Albuquerque. He is survived by five daughters and four sons. The body was taken to Crollett's Mortuary pending funeral arangements."

From the Albuquerque Morning Journal, July 17, 1927, page 10:

"DURAN-Funeral services for Mr. Mariano Duran, who passed away at his home at Old Albuquerque Thursday morning will be held sunday morning at 8:15 from the San Felipe de Neri church. Father Giglio will celebrate his high requiem mass for the repose of his soul. Interment will be at Santa Barbara cemetery. The S.N.M. de M.P. No. 1 will have charge at the grave. Crollett Mortuary, director."

Mariano Duran is listed in the 1925 Albuquerque City Directory as living at 1920 W. New York Avenue. His wife is listed as Cleofas L. His employment is listed as "lab", probably laborer.

Mariano Duran and Piedad Lovato had the following children:

Mariano Duran and Cleofas Lobato had the following children:

child 33 iv. James Duran(220) was born on (birth date unknown). James died in Boyle Heights, Ca. He married Seneca Carriaga. (Additional notes for Seneca Carriaga(221)) James Duran was a prize fighter. In later years, he worked in a lumber mill. He went partially blind when he was hit in the head by a piece of lumber.

He trained to be a piano turner and plied his trade by travelling to different households on his bicycle, even through he was legally blind.

He eventually moved to Boyleheights, California.

Mariano Duran(225) was born in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico March 11, 1901.(226) Mariano died March 31, 1959 in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, at 58 years of age.(227) His body was interred 1959 in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico.(228) He married Mary Sanchez. Mary(229) is the daughter of Eliseo Sanchez and Nellie McGuiness. Mariano Duran Jr. and his wife, Mary (Maria) Sanchez were compadres of Alfred and Virginia Chavez, from whom most of the information about these people was learned.

Mariano Duran worked as in car upholstery. The day he was to marry his second wife, Dolores (?), he died of a heart attack. He had already changed his insurance policy to his future wife's name, so his children and his first wife were left fairly without an inheritance.

Canderlario Manuel Duran(230) was born in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico about 1910.(231) Canderlario died in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, Ca.(232) Manuel Duran was also known as Candelario Duran and "Candy" and Uncle Dandy. He was a popular Uncle of all the children. He was the youngest son of Mariano Duran and his wife, Cleofis. He was considered a hardworker, yet a playboy type. He was a bachelor all through life; he never married. When asked why he never married, he often said he had the best of both worlds. He could be a single fellow and have a lot of fun and also enjoy the wives and children of all his relatives. At one point in his life, he worked for Coca-Cola and was said to be in the service. Later in life he moved to Los Angeles, California where he worked for the post office. He died in Los Angeles.

He was said to keep a black sock full of silver dollars. He was a gambler and known as a "fun" guy. Virginia Sanchez Chavez described him as "always ready to go.....anywhere. He always showed a great deal of respect to women". He was the favorite Uncle of all the children in the family.
