West Los Angeles Sports Car Club
Meet III
Welcome to the third annual
Sports Car Club Meet. Many of you have attended the meet last year
and I hope you had a good time seeing and meeting other sports cars and
their drivers.

This year will be no
different from the previous meets. We will meet on
Sunday July 29th. The meet location
is in West Los Angeles very near Santa Monica Airport.
The meeting will be at
7:30AM and we'll head out to the canyon shortly after. I will make all
the updates on this site so please make it a point to check back at
least the day before the meet.

As many of you may
remember we had over 150 cars last year. I expect this year to
top 200. One of the problems we had last year is getting
lunch. The only restaurant in this canyon can't handle the shier
volume of people in a such a short period of time. So I strongly
recommend that you pack up a small lunch. I will call ahead of
time to the restaurant so they can be somewhat prepared.

Gassing up the cars was
again an issue last year. You have to remember that this is over 170
miles of canyon where there are no gas stations, for you to fill up. Your
fuel tank must be topped off before you get to the canyon.
Please make sure that you do this before you arrive at the meeting
spot.

I will once again put a
page together with the names of the drivers and type of vehicle, they
will be driving. Please take a minute to send me an e-mail by
clicking here.
This will allow me to better organize the whole event.
We may have some trinkets
and trash to hand out to the attendees, this year, as some businesses have
expressed interest in supporting this event.

405 North ----- exit
National and make a left go to the end of National and make a right at
the end. Make a left at the first light (Ocean Park). On 28th st
make a left and the meet is in the parking lot behind the brown building
405 South ----- Exit Pico and make a Left, make a right at Pico
(1st light) then make a left at Gateway (2nd light) and go straight. Gateway will turn into Ocean Park. On 28th st make a
left and the meet is in the parking lot behind the brown building
10 West ---- Exit Overland and go straight 2 Miles to the end and make
a Right. Make a left at the next light (Ocean Park). On 28th st make
a left and the meet is in the parking lot behind the brown building
10 East ----- Exit Centinella make a left and go under the
freeway and make a right on to Centinella. Go 3/4 mile and make a right on
to Ocean Park. On 28th st make a left and the meet is in the parking lot
behind the brown building

BTW. If you
wake up early enough this coming Saturday, tune into Channel 5 (KTLA)
at 1 AM and 6 AM to find out what was all the hoopla with the TV
camera and the pretty girl doing interviews.

Sign-up for the
meet is closed... pheewwww!!! It's been an interesting month.
We almost hit 400 confirmed attendees.
Few things that
needs to be done before you arrive at the meet location on Sunday.
- BEFORE you
pull into the parking lot, make sure that you fill up your
tank. There will be no time for you to fill up once we
get going. We will not be able to wait for you. This
is very important!!! You will pass several gas stations as
you arrive, so take the opportunity to fill up the tank.
Once you park your car you may not be able to leave. Keep
in mind that there will be over 400 cars parked
there.
- Bring
Lunch. I called the one and only restaurant up there and
they will not be able to handle the crowed. They will have
some drinks and snacks but that's about it.
- Check your
cars and bikes thoroughly. Make sure your tires are in
good condition and inflated properly. Basic common sense
things. Specially, make sure that your car is in good
mechanical condition. If you're not sure please leave it
at home. You do not want to have car troubles up in the
mountain.
- Bring a
Thomas Guide if you have one.
- Bring Radios
if you have them (walkie talkie) and coordinate with others as
to which channel to use.
- High octane
fuel may not be available at the meet location. There is
an issue with the supplier. So you guys may have to run
with the crappy California, recently reduces octane, pee water.
- BRING YOUR
COMMON SENSE AND LEAVE THE EGOS AND TESTOSTERONES AT HOME.
DON'T COME IF YOU'RE TRYING TO PROVE SOMETHING.

Update 07/01/01***********************
Some believe that this is a race.... It's NOT a race.
We will only cruise the canyon. That means the speed limits
and all traffic laws applies to all that attend. As during the past
two years, this meet will attract a lot of attention. As you
arrive at the meet location, please drive as slowly and as quietly
as possible so as to not attract too much attention to
yourself. Do not rev and chirp tires as you arrive. This will
get us all kicked out. Once you arrive at the parking lot,
find a suitable place to park and turn off your engine. If we
all act like adults we will have a great day for all to enjoy.
AGAIN.... THIS IS NOT A RACE, SPEED CONTEST, EXHIBITION OF SPEED but
just a cruise.... |

06/14/01*******************
The meet location will have to be moved to accommodate everyone.
With the responses so far, we will far exceed the number from last
year. We will now meet next to Santa Monica Airport on the corner of
Ocean park and 28th St.. The entrance is from Ocean Park Blvd.
As you go toward the airport you'll see the parking area to your
right. I've updated the maps to show you where it is. This is
very close to where we met last year.
