History
Marketed to the MoD as a gun tractor and designated truck general service 1 tonne rover 4x4. This vehicle has its weight evenly distributed between all four wheels; it was fitted with a 2-speed transfer box and differential lock. This coupled with its short wheel base gives exceptional off road performance.

The vehicle chassis was of a unique design, the suspension used was leaf sprung, the engine and transmission were modified Range Rover components and the four wheel drive is engaged with a vacuum centre differential lock. The 900 X 16 tyres were mounted on stud rims driven by heavy-duty Salisbury axles. The driver is positioned at the very front of the vehicle with the engine located between the driver and passenger.

The most common vehicle is the General Service "soft top" version, a prop shaft driven Nokken winch mounted on the left side midway between the front and rear axle was fitted to around 20% of these vehicles. Three version of the hard top vehicle were produced. Marshall's of Cambridge converted 300-450 vehicles into ambulances and also produced around 20 Vampire radio vehicles. The other hard top vehicle was also a radio communication vehicle of which about 125 were produced. The rear PTO can be used for powered trailers the early prototypes included a specifically designed 2-wheeled powered trailer.

Although the standard transmission is 4 forward and 1 reverse gear some vehicles have 8 forward and 2 reverse gears. The 1-tonne name of this vehicle is a reference to its payload not its actual weight. The official top road speed of 75mph was more realistically 60mph.

This SWB version of the FC, was a natural continuation from the Series IIb. A total of 2669 were built including a number of prototypes that were produced between 1968 and 1974 thus filling the production gap between the FC models.

Llama
Llama The 101 was used as a platform to develop this new vehicle the Llama. Land Rover built 8 Prototype's 1986 marketed at the MoD resembling a small truck.

The vehicle proved to have excellent off road capabilities but the MoD favoured another vehicle the result was that the vehicle never got beyond the prototype stage.

City Cab
City Cab The 101 was also the base vehicle for the City Cab's in the Hollywood film Judge Dredd. A fibreglass body was fitted to the vehicle to form the futuristic look, some of these were road legal but most were non-running film props.

The 'One Ton' Landrover and 'One Tonne' Landrover are different vehicles.
