History
A prototype was built in 1968; actual production began in April 1969.
Two versions were produced, a Series IIa variant of which 170 vehicles were built and a Series III variant of which around 235 were built.
The chassis used was taken from a standard 109" vehicle but upgraded; drop shackle suspension was used as pioneered for military vehicles.
The gearbox and 900x16 tyres were taken from the Series IIb forward control.
Part-time four wheel drive was used and the transfer box had greater reduction that a standard vehicle.
The Series IIa version used heavy-duty ENV axles where-as the Series III version used front and rear Salisbury axles.
The front brakes on both variants were wider than standard Landrover brakes with 3" shoes; this was combined with a servo.
A notable conversion for this vehicle was by Carmichaels’, the TACR1 airfield crash tender as used by the RAF.
The 'One Ton' Landrover and 'One Tonne' Landrover are different vehicles.
