History
The Freelander 2 also know as the LR2 was launched at the British International Motor Show London July 2006.
Land Rover combined design elements from the Discovery3 and the Range Rover Sport into this new vehicle.
The new Freelander is a hatchback targeted at the compact SUV market, the spare wheel has been placed in the floor of the rear load area and the rear side hinged door has gone.
It is bigger than the original Freelander the dimensions are more a-kin to a Discovery MKI.
The vehicle is a monocoque structure with fully independent suspension and full-time 4wd.
Land Rovers Terrain Response is standard on all but the entry-level 'S' model.
One touch air-conditioning, DSC, RSC, HDC, ETC and PAS are standard on all models.
The Td4 is a Ford/PSA engine and the i6 engine is Volvo derived.
The transmission will be a 6 speed automatic gearbox as standard, with the option of a 6 speed manual box on the diesel mid 2007.
Until then the i6 will be automatic and the td4 will be manual except the 'S' model which comes with 6-speed manual as standard.
The 4 wheel drive system has been designed to drive the rear wheels from a standing start, or if wheel spin occurs.
Otherwise, the front wheels are the main traction force.
The Freelander 2 is being built at Ford's Halewood plant in Liverpool.
The expected on the road UK launch price is £20,935 for the Td4 s diesal rising to £33,990 for the i6 HSE petrol version.
