Balinese Textiles
1. Ikat
Some of the best known traditional Balinese cloths include ikat, an
ancient technique where a motif is dyed into the threads of a cloth
before being woven. The most Famous ikat in Bali is the Geringsing,
only woven in a tiny village of Bali Aga call Tenganan.
2. Songket
Songket is a technique by which gold or silver threads are woven into
cloth or ikat. It usually comes in 2-meters lengths for use as sarong
or long scarves by balinese women in ceremonies.
3. Balinese Batik
Many people who come to bali ask for "Balinese batik". But in fact batik was
never really made in bali until recenly, and even today most batik come from Java.
Balinese batik is usually found on colorful bed spreads and sarongs with designs of
anything from the sun, moon and flower.
