Chapter 15:
"Tenshinhan vs. Turunksu!"

"Our last and final fight of the day once again involves a virtual unknown fighting a major favorite from past Budoukais!"

"Tenshinhan, as many of you will remember, fought the brave boy Son Gokou in an impressive match in the twenty-second Tenka-Ichi Budoukai!"

Kuriren looked up at the announcer’s box. "Hmm... They’ve taken lessons on their Japanise I see..."

"Of course, with all of the major upsets today, it would hardly suprise me if Tenshinhan lost to his opponant."

Chaiotzu looked up "Here it comes guys!"

Kuriren nodded, Vegeta crossed his arms "Well, someone should tell them to hurry up. I don’t have all frickin’ day here!"

Kuriren gave Piccolo a look. "And you tell _me_ to be patient?"

Son Gohan rolled his eyes. "You want to try to force him to be patient, be my guest."

"Of course, many also wonder at the newcomer’s chances against the more experienced Tenshinhan."

Vegeta practically glowed with anger. "GET ON WITH IT ALREADY!"

His shout was echoed by various sections of the crowd.

"A... Ahem... right! Sumimasen! The last match of the day will be decided between Tenshinhan, and the newcomer, Turunksu!"

All the anger left Vegeta’s face in a flash. He gasped, eyes widening in shock. Iie! Fukanou! It _CAN’T_ be _HIM_!

Kuriren was shaking in suprise. "Nani! What did he say?!"

Neither Piccolo, nor Son Gohan had any reaction to the announcement. Just about to enter the ring, Tenshinhan stopped cold, and glared daggers at Son Gohan.

Vegeta’s hands clenched into fists. "I didn’t expect him!" He turned to Son Gohan, his eyes narrowing. "HOW COULD YOU KEEP THIS FROM ME, SHRIMP?"

Son Gohan crossed his arms. "Trunks asked me not to."

Vegeta dropped into his usual fighting position. "THAT’S NOT AN EXCUSE!"

Son Gohan hardly gave Vegeta a glance. "Sit down, shut up, and enjoy the fight. I’ve got a fealing you’ll be fighting him before long."

Vegeta stood, smirking. "Good. I want to see how the brat’s Ki compairs to mine. He’s not as strong as me, he never was, but it will be a very intense fight."

Son Gohan looked up at Vegeta. "I’ve a feeling you’re right."

Vegeta glared down at Son Gohan. "I just hope he’s prepaired to loose, I won’t go easy on him just because he’s my son."

Son Gohan chuckled softly, and returned his attention to the match. Trunks had just entered the ring, causing most of the female audience to gasp, and swoon.

"What’s so funny?"

Son Gohan didn’t stop laughing. "Just you. You won’t go easy on Trunks, but I doubt he’ll go easy on you either, which you appearantly expect him to do."

Vegeta glared at Son Gohan once again. "I should really hurt you one of these days."

"Maybe you’ll get the chance to try in the Budoukai." Son Gohan said, doubting a match between them would ever take place.

"I didn’t expect you, Trunks. I thought you’d gone for good last time."

Trunks nodded. "So did I. I’m not here for my own ego, I’m here to judge my students."

Tenshin’s eyes narrowed. "Students?"

"An’ya Ryuu, Jinzouningen Juuhachi Gou, Gai Setsuna, Karugo, and Eimin Gyokusai."

"The five ‘newcomers’ to the tournament!"

"Hai, that’s them, though technically Juuhachi isn’t my student, and Karugo hasn’t been with us long enough to learn much yet."

"It was your Juuhachi that lost, wasn’t it?"

"Hai. Is it any suprise? Yours is stronger than the one from my world." His eyes narrowed. "It’s probaby got something to do with her absorbtion by Cell."

Tenshinhan nodded. "I guess there’s nothing left for me to do but loose."

Trunks gave Tenshinhan a hard look. "Were you one of my students, I’d send you to meditate about what you think you’re fighting for. Sense you’re not, I’ll let it slide."

"Fight BEGIN!"

Neither Trunks nor Tenshinhan moved. Trunks dropped out of his fighting stance, straightening out. He closed his eyes, and crossed his arms. "Your move, Tenshinhan. I’ll let you get off the first attack, no questions, no blocking, no dodging."

All three of Tenshinhan’s eyes widened. Arrogant son of... His eyes narrowed again ...Vegeta... (Author's Notes: Who didn't see _that_ one coming a mile away?)

Tenshinhan attacked with a flying two-foot strike that put nearly every muscle in his body behind the blow, but it passed through the air where Trunks used to be. Tenshinhan cursed himself for his stupidity, as he looked around for Trunks.

"Behind you."

Tenshinhan spun, coming face to face with Trunks. "You could have attacked me at any time..."

"But I didn’t."

Tenshinhan growled. "You said.."

"I know what I said. Do you really think I’m stupid enough to underestimate you, Tenshinhan?"

Tenshinhan’s eyes narrowed. "Perhaps you’re not so arrogant as I thought."

Trunks glanced into the crowd. Tenshinhan didn’t have to look to know he was looking at Vegeta. "I know the dangers of arrogance, Tenshinhan."

"The crowd’s going to get pissed if we don’t fight."

Trunks nodded. "I know. Let’s oblige them, shall we?"

The brat said something about me, I just know it! Vegeta thought, as he frowned at his son. He said something to Tenshinhan, and then looked at me! Barely managing to control his ever-present rage, Vegeta seethed in anger.

"Man, what’s crawled up Vegeta’s shorts this time?" Kuriren asked Son Gohan, starting a whispered conversation.

"I don’t know."

"I bet you could fry an egg on his forehead!"

Vegeta turned slowly, his gaze settling on Kuriren. "Shut up."

Kuriren didn’t respond, he covered his mouth with his hands, trying, and failing, to keep from looking afraid. Vegeta returned his attention to the fight. His anger would doubtless remain with him until he had the opprotunity to royally beat the living crap out of somebody.

***

Tenshinhan panted, he was out of breath in less than two minutes of fighting, and it was obvious that Trunks hadn’t even broken a sweat yet. That didn’t make Tenshinhan feel particularly good about his chances, though he’d known they’d be infinitesimal at the beginning of the battle.

"Come on, Tenshinhan. You’re stronger than this. Get angry, or something. The crowd doesn’t want to be dissappointed."

Tenshinhan grinned. "You’re nuts if you think I’ve finished, Trunks. SHIYOUKEN!!!!"

Trunks’s eyes widened as he watched Tenshinhan’s arms split in half, giving him two arms per half of his body. For those who don’t know, that gave Tenshinhan four arms, rather than the usual two. Tenshin smiled, finally having an opprotunity to use an attack he hadn’t needed sense the old Dragon Ball series.

***

An’ya’s eyes narrowed. "Wish I could do that."

Karugo looked up at her. "It’s just an illusion, you can see past it if you look hard enough. He still only has two arms, he’s just moving them _very_ quickly."

Gyou nodded. "Hai, it’s like your Zanzouken."

Setsuna looked at Karugo and Gyou like they were idiots. "He does have four arms. Consider it like the Shishin no ken technique, four arms, but each only hits at half of Tenshinhan’s normal strength."

Karugo looked at him with the same expression Setsuna had just used. "Nani? How do you know?"

"I study, while you guys are finding your strength, I find my opponant’s weaknesses. It’s much more efficient that way."

"You were prepaired to fight people who, in our time, died more than twenty years ago?"

Setsuna nodded. "Hai."

An’ya shrugged. "Who’d have thought."

***

Trunks slapped Tenshinhan away with a seemingly effortless backhanded blow. Tenshinhan stumbled, almost falling, but he caught himself in time.

I knew this wouldn’t be easy, but Trunks has gotten a _lot_ stronger sense we last saw him! Tenshinhan nearly used the Shishin no ken, but realized if he did he’d be disqualified. Kuso! This is a one-on-one fight, I can’t make it four-on-one!

Tenshinhan charged forward to attack. Trunks casually put a hand forward as if to block the attack.

***

Piccolo tensed. "Finally, we’ll see what Trunks’s true power really is."

Vegeta looked up at him. "Does it matter? I’ll still beat him."

Son Gohan didn’t even bother to look up. "Riiight."

***

Tenshinhan was propelled backwards, thrown out of the ring by an invisable surge of his opponant’s Ki. He came to a stop less than an inch from the lowest row of Budoukai fans.

Tenshinhan looked up at Trunks. Can’t dissappoint the crowd... Trunks, you’ve changed. I don’t know if you’re the same person you were when we last saw you. How could you have changed so much in so short a time sense then?

***

An’ya gasped. "Sougekiha!"

Setsuna nodded. "Hai."

"But... but he didn’t _say_ anything to use it!"

"Haven’t you noticed how the only attack he ever says anything for anymore is his Finish Buster?"

"Iie..."

Setsuna shook his head. "I’d think you’d pay more attention to him, what with the obvious attraction and all."

An’ya’s eyes widened. "Shut up! Juuhachi might hear!"

"Do you really think she cares? She’s about twice Trunks’s age, you’re nuts if you think she and he can ever get together."

An’ya blinked, she hadn’t thought of that. But what if Juuhachi’s paying Setsuna to tell me that? Can’t risk letting my guard down, ever!

***

Vegeta’s eyes widened in suprise, as did those of Piccolo, Son Gohan, Kuriren, and all the others.

Piccolo was the first to speak. "Su... Such power! It’s incredable! He's not even a Super Saiya-jin, either!"

Vegeta growled in anger, his hands clenched into fists so tight, were he not wearing gloves, he probably would have drawn blood with his fingernails.

This isn’t _happening_! How could his power have increased so much in such a short time? DAMN HIM! _DAMN HIM_!!!!!
