Mirai no Senshi
Chapter 18:
"mirai gekitsuu no senshi tai gen’yuu doki no senshi."

Trunks glared at his father. If looks could kill... well, let’s just say it’s a good thing for Vejiita that they couldn’t. His eyes narrowed dangerously. "Otousan... I’m not going to forgive you."

Vejiita glared back. "I’ve not asked for your forgiveness, boy. Now that I’ve got your hatrid, let’s say we ignore the standard warm-up, and just go Super Saiya-jin and get things finished."

Trunks made no movement. "I will not. This is a test of skill, Vejiita, not one of power. You may yet beat me through skill, but I far outclass you in strength."

"Oushikuso! You’re nothing compaired to me! I’m the superior fighter, and I’m more than you’ll ever be."

"Goku kechinakangae, otousan. Chikaradzukude, mononisuru setsujoku."

"Ha! Koukouji no baka ..."

"You call _me_ a ‘stupid immature youth’, otousan? Seems to me that _you’re_ the one who’s both immature and stupid. Your ego has allways been your undoing. You’ve fought my students, hai, but that is _all_ they are, students. I’ve taught them most of what they know, but I haven’t taught them all that I have to teach." Trunks smiled slightly. "I’m stronger than you believe me to be."

"I’ve improved as well, boy. Whatever strength you have gained is no match for mine. You accuse me of pride, yet it seems to be something you’ve inherited. You’re nothing but a half-breed, the product of a meer dalliance. What makes you think you’re power is superior to mine?"

Trunks’s smile turned into a sneer that would make even Vejiita jealous. He dropped into a fighting stance. "Ahh, but that would be telling."

Infuriated, and growling with anger, Vejiita dropped into a fighting stance of his own.

Son Gohan looked over at Kuriren. "Do you think Trunks-kun can win?"

Kuriren shook his head. "Vejiita’s a lot stronger than he was when Trunks last visited. I don’t see that much of an outward change in Trunks’s Ki. Much as I hate to say it, it looks like Vejiita will win."

"... Unless Trunks has become stronger than any of us know." Piccoro interjected. Arms crossed, the Nameku-sei jin looked on, trying to see the true strength of each fighter, and failing miserably. Kokuhyou! I can’t even begin to estimate their Ki. Vejiita, Trunks, how much have you improved?

Son Gohan looked up with concern at his mentor / father-figure. Piccolo seems worried. Is he afraid Vejiita will win... or that Vejiita will _loose_?

"Zamamiro otousan."

"Bakahashinanakyanaoranai, Obocchan."

"Ichigenkoji, itsumonotoorini, Bejiita-‘ouji’. Maro fudan jigoujitoku. Maro jitsuni bakayarou no ouji. Yomeiikubakumonai!"

"I doubt that, Obocchan."

"I’m ashamed to call you ‘Otousan’, Vejiita. Don’t expect to see me again after this fight. I’ll not be back."

Vejiita’s eyes narrowed. "And I should care why?"

Trunks shook his head. "I have nothing further to say to you."

Vejiita made no move.

"Trunks, are you ready?" the referee asked, having considered their pre-fight conversation at a close.

"Hai."

"And you, Vejiita?"

"Need you even ask?"

"Then let the fight begin!"

Juuhachi stood over An’ya’s unconsious form. Eyes closed, with crossed arms, she gave every appearance of being uncaring of her "rival’s" injury. However decieving appearances usually are, for once, they were one-hundred percent correct. Juuhachi didn’t much care at the moment because she was too busy trying to hear the fight coverage in the other room.

Only occasionally did she glance at An’ya’s unmoving, unconsious form. At this point, not many in the building were worried about An’ya’s condition actually becoming worse, though there _had_ been talk of placing bets about the exact day An’ya would get better.

In other words, it was no concern of Juuhachi’s, dispite the fact that, being oldest, and female, it seemed Trunks trusted her to be alone with An’ya. Juuhachi rolled her eyes at the thought.

I’m suprised at you, Trunks. You trust your students enough to allow them to make errors, but don’t trust us to handle things when you’re away? ... At this point, I’m starting to wonder if it’s really worth my time trying to become human again.

Sighing, Juuhachi looked at her "Rival" once again. "At least you don’t have to worry about things anymore, An’ya-chan. You’re asleep, and I doubt even Kami-sama knows when you’ll wake up again. Tell me, An’ya-chan... tell me what it’s like for you. Are you dreaming? If you are, of what? Of who? Are you dreaming of home? Dreaming of friends? Dreaming of Trunks? And if you’re not dreaming, what trick is your mind playing on you? Can you hear me? Can you still sense Ki? If you can, do you know that Trunks is fighting his father? Vejiita?" Juuhachi shook her head. "I wish I knew what was going on in your mind... what was going on in Trunks’s mind... Have I been a machine so long that I’ve lost all concept of what it’s like to be human?"

Juuhachi’s gaze left An’ya, and moved to the closed door that seperated "An’ya’s room" (Formerly Trunks’s Room), from the main sleeping / living area. She smiled softly as she heard a familiar voice cheering Trunks on.

"No ..." She whispered to herself, "If I’ve lost everything human about myself, then how can I feal the way I do?"

***

"Tell me, Trunks... " Vejiita paused midsentence to dodge a series of punches. "... what do you fight for?"

Trunks didn’t hesitate in his attack, refusing to respond until he was finished. Each series of maneuvers either drove Vejiita back, or threw him off balance. "Yokeinaosewa."

"Turunksu-kun, fukusuibonnikaerazu. Kishikata shiyouganai."

Trunks’s eyes narrowed. "Otousan, remember who you’re talking to here. If you recall, I _have_ changed the past!"

Vejiita’s eyes narrowed. Damn that kid! I forgot about that! Kuso!

Trunks’s smirk really seemed to get on Vejiita’s nerves. "Hmm... that’s what I thought."

Vejiita growled in anger, and launched himself into another series of attacks.

***

"Neither of them have gone Super Saiya-jin yet... what’re they doing, Piccolo?"

"It looks to me like this fight’s become a test of skill, rather than a test of power. It gives Trunks a better chance of beating Vejiita, though I don’t understand how he expects to win. Vejiita’s a genius when it comes to fighting."

"Piccolo... I’ve got a question."

"Hai?"

"Who’re you hoping will win?"

Piccolo glanced down at Son Gohan, an inquisitive look on his face. "Trunks. Why do you ask?"

Son Gohan glanced back at the combatants. "... just wondering. I sense that there’s something odd about Trunks’s fighting style... as if he’s holding back a great deal... yet it looks to me like he’s fighting all out. Are you feeling the same thing, Piccolo?"

"I can’t tell. Vejiita seems to be holding back as well, but... it’s very hard to say. Those two have become stronger, that’s obvious... the real question is, how much stronger have they become?"

Son Gohan and Piccolo both returned their attention to the fight.

***

"Trunks, I tire of this game. You insist that you’re stronger than I am, yet you refuse to let us see who is the stronger. Are you afraid you’ll be less than me? Afraid that I’m stronger than you? Or is there another reason you refuse to fight me at full power."

Trunks’s eyes narrowed dangerously. "It’s for your sake, Otousan. For the sake of your pride, that I don’t fight you at my full power."

"Kusotare! Trunks no bakayarou! For the sake of my pride, gaki, show me your full strength!" Vejiita let his anger explode, and push him to Super Saiya-jin. In a couple of seconds, Vejiita was at his maximum power, the crowd having fallen into a stunned silence once more, as if expecting Trunks to go the way of his student.

Trunks’s eyes narrowed. "You force this on yourself, Otousan." Trunks let his rage push himself to Super Saiya-jin, he reached his maximum just as quickly as Vejiita did.

"Gaki, all your boasting was over such a weak ki? I’m disgusted, Trunks. You’re not worth my time."

"Izen kiranai, zannennagara." Trunks grinned.

Vejiita’s eyes widened. "You don’t mean you’ve... "

Trunks pushed himself, forced himself. He felt his transformation rising, and did nothing to stop the surge in his power. His already spikey hair seemed to explode, making his head look like a golden sea urchin. His body, unable to completely contain his power, filled his aura with bolts of raw ki.

"... Ascended!" Dispite himself, Vejiita felt his jaw drop open. Eyes widened in what could only be fear, Vejiita started backing away from his son. Kokuhyou! First Kakkarotto’s brat, and now Trunks! Vejiita’s eyes narrowed. I must reach this level as well, I must know how he did it!

Piccolo, Son Gohan, Kuriren, and the other Z Senshi looked on in stunned horror at Trunks.

Something stirred in An’ya Ryuu’s world... a single word made it’s way into her consious and subconsious mind at the exact same instant.

The word, of course, was:

‘TRUNKS’

Aware that something must be wrong, An’ya started pushing herself back towards consiousness.

***

"Give up, Otousan. You can’t beat me now."

Growling with rage, Vejiita stood his ground. "Hiretsukan!"

Trunks smiled and nodded, which only served to infuriate Vejiita more.

"Damn you, brat!" Vejiita, face twisted in rage, extended his right arm. Palm pointing straight at Trunks, the warrior from the future made no move. "BIG BANG ATTACK!"

Appearing insanely fast to everyone watching, including the suprised Z Senshi, Vejiita’s attack was agonizingly slow to only two people. The first was Vejiita, who had put much of his power into the attack, and was anxious to see it hit Trunks.

The other person who saw it as a slow attack was Trunks. Not because he was afraid of what it could do to him, nor because he was worried about any effects it might have if Vejiita’s aim was off and he hit the crowd. With one smoothe movement, Trunks slapped the attack out of the Earth’s atmosphere without any appearant effort.

Vejiita didn’t let his shock posess him, he pressed his attack with a series of punches and kicks that Trunks dodged with an ease that increased Vejiita’s rage even further. In one quick movement, Trunks snapped Vejiita’s right arm with an appearantly effortless kick.

Trunks’s eyes narrowed. "Tell me, Otousan, how do you like fighting an opponant far stronger than you with but a single arm?"

His anger now at an unprecedented level, Vejiita turned to the only option he had left.

He concieded defeat.

***

"TRUNKS! WAIT!"

Trunks turned to catch a glimpse of Vejiita running towards him through the throng of people at the entrance to the Budokai. Sighing in annoyance, Trunks stopped to await Vejiita’s arrival. After a few long seconds, Trunks greated Vejiita with an annoyed "What the hell do you want?"

Vejiita’s eyes narrowed slightly, his right arm clutched tightly to his side. "Piccolo asked me to give you this." With his left hand, Vejiita handed Trunks an unimpressive brown bag.

Trunks’s eyes narrowed as he looked into the bag, but they quickly widened in suprise.

"Senzu beans?"

Vejiita nodded. "Hai, four."

Trunks raised an eyebrow, and glanced at Vejiita’s right arm. "You mean three, don’t you?"

Vejiita blinked. "Nani?"

Trunks dropped one of the beans into Vejiita’s hand. Vejiita opened his mouth, wether to protest or ask a question Trunks didn’t care, as he was already hundreds of feet away, and flying through the air towards where his capsule house was located.

Vejiita thought it best not to follow, and downed the Senzu bean without any protest.

End of Chapter 18:

"warrior of future pain versus warrior of present anger"

Ahh, gratuitous violence... ^_^ Sorry about all the Japanese... I wanted to make this chapter memorable, and I bet it is... as the most confusing of the chapters I’ve yet written... I just hope the fighting makes up for it.
