CAMBRINTH ITEMS:
Camb items
can be used to store mana for later use in your spells. You can purchase them in
some shops and at auction. But if getting one via auction be sure the item is
either A: uncharged or B: charged with the type of mana you use or C: that you
know a moonie that will retune the item for you (ex: holy if you are a cleric,
elemental for war mages etc..) When ready to harvest the stored mana: Prep your spell, Remove or hold the item (unless you have 200+ in magical devices and can focus them without taking them off.. in which case what the hell do you need a guide for?), Focus my ring (then you can put it back on), then Cast as normal. Note: Loading, focusing, and using camb in general teach magical devices a great deal quicker than runes or other devices. You can find camb items that hold between 5 and 100 mana. Some can be worn, some cannot. Once you have close to 170 in MD you will find you can work with your camb items while still wearing them. It will not always work at first, I would estimate 200 ranks is where this would become consistent for you.

I often hear
people ask how to harness mana for another to use in their spells so a quick
note here. NOTE: When harnessing for another person, they DO NOT get the full effect of the mana you harness. For those who don't use your same mana type (i.e. holy and elemental, for example), you only get 50% of it. For those who use the same mana type, you get approximately 70%.

To practice your skill in MD you can use a rune, charm or any other item that holds a spell. To use it, hold it in your hands and.. note: Runes have been changed so that they no longer give you the same learning they once did. Personal suggestion is Cambrinth
To use camb just charge it with 5, prep spell, focus camb, then cast. Doing this repeatedly will teach you much faster than any other method I have found.

Gweths are used to project and listen to thoughts across the realm. They can be found on critters and in boxes or made by a moonie, but not purchased in a shop. You can also, like all other items in the realms, find them at auction.
Note: If you are wearing a J Gweth you will not hear the thoughts or be able to speak to those wearing a K Gweth unless you have one of those as wells. (They are 2 different frequencies, so to speak.) And vice versa for each type.
For those of
you, who loathe the horrid noisemakers you can also use them to learn mechanical
lore... but not much.

To project
and listen to thoughts there are also ALBREDINE rings. Colorless (or colored) Tuned to you and all with same color. Once put on you in it’s colorless form, it will choose a color as it tunes itself to you. Can only listen to and project thoughts to those using same color ring. See note below on how to tune them together. Once a ring is tuned (turned a color), it will not change color on someone else. Crystal Tuned to all other crystal rings.
To clear a
colored ring hold it in your left hand and a weapon in your right then TAP my
ring. This will cause the color to fade to colorless. Note: rubbing the rings is not needed and messing with it too much will melt it so be careful.

These can be used to make gweths by a moon mage, or they are wonderful teachers of Mechanical Lore. If you have more than one, simply hold them, remove 1 stone from my stones, comb my stone with my stones, over and over until locked. I never found that taking out more than 1 or varying the number taught me differently, though some swear by it.

To learn mech lore you can: play with stones as mentioned above, braid, practice alchemy, origami, carve tusks, make bows, clean instruments, forge, fletch, or buy a scraper from the peltry or tanner shop and scrape your skins clean. Buckets do not teach it well enough to bother having to carry one anymore. You can forage vines and BRAID them into ropes to learn (see training scripts). I personally prefer carving tusks, you gather boar tusks (only boar tusks will work), have a moonie sigil or imbue them, then carve them into bones. Teaches me a bit better than origami, without having to lug around a forest worth of trees that have been mangled into paper.

This is taken directly from the realm, but good to keep in mind so here goes:
Dateline 8/7/2001: WARNINGS, ACCOUNT SANCTIONS AND MESSAGE BOARDS
Policy 20:
On a side note: Be aware that if you receive a warning from the gods, you will
lose your ability to thump anyone for 6 months. If you are cranky like me...
this could be a problem. (Thumping is the ability to hit someone hard enough in
the throat to shut them up for a bit if they are chronically annoying. You must
be at least 20 circles higher than the other person to do so).
