First off a special ability of a war mage is the ability to SUMMON our lil helpers. There's many familiars available to use during different periods of our training depending on your mechanical lore and circles.

The first Familiars that are available are small talismans which include (Lizard, Turtle, guinea-pig,might be one or 2 more) these familiars can pick stuff up and take it to someone, find someone, help you "peer" into other rooms, talk through them, and find help when you get killed(if you have the familiar "out" with you. You need 10 in mech lore to be able to carve a talisman successfully, and once carved you can summon the familiar. Of course they do tricks but I was never sittin long enough to learn what they were. The way to carve a talisman is pretty simple: here goes, get a simple talisman from the artificer shop (DIR), first step is to RUB the talisman 3 times to "tune" it to you. Then get a carving knife and Carve Talisman with my Knife till you "bring out the fine details". Once that is done you Type Summon and presto! you have a lil travel companion

Next Familiar available to us the the Large talisman. There's some very nice ones in this group for instance(rat,bunny, squirrel,bat,crows,piglets, and maybe a few others)(thanks Magmus been a long time), these do pretty much the same tricks and such as the small talismans. You rub it , carve it then you need to buy this beraldi potion to rub into them once the talisman is carved (might take more than 1 potion), after rubbin the potions into the talisman your set to Summon it! Circle requirement is 10 with 20 in mech

The next familiar is the Dark Familiar. These are very nice, I currently have a falcon and a dog(flying talismans cannot follow or find in a building) These you have to kind of quest for and the quest is a guild secret. So i'd suggest finding a friend that has one. The quest isn't hard but again its a guild secret. Theres a clue on some tree somewhere in haven but i've forgoten where its at. Sorry couldn't be more help Gauthus probably would have my head if i told anymore about the quest! The familiars are Dog, Cat,Falcon, Goose, might be one or 2 more. Circle requirements are 20th and Mech of 50

The next familiar is the Fir Familiar. Requirements on this type is 50th circle and 100 in Mech. Theres a quest involed with this type also and it has something to do with the area around Shard. Cant tell much more or Gauthus would probably disbar me from the guild. The types of Familiars are Bear,Panther, Owl, lynx(not sure on this one), those are all i have seen, so there might be more. Ill let ya know when i get mine!

Finally There's also talk of getting talismans past 50th but whether is hearsay or in the works I don't know as of yet. Hope you enjoy your travel companions there's more tricks and such they do but I don't know what they are you can check on some by typing "tell fami" and a usage list comes up. Have fun finding these out!


Also Warmages are very versatile in what they can do with other areas in the Realms. For instance you can make bladed weapons, blunt weapons, bows, arrows, and all kinds of other interesting things. All it should take is a lil research and skill to find what you can do! So kick back and have fun!
