The picture at left was Cotton taken shortly before she died. She was born in September of 1995 and died within a few weeks. The only one of a litter of three to survive that long, the mother suffocated the other two and starved her.

March 5, 2002 - October 21, 2002

Nikayla was purposely hit by someone who wanted to "Score 5 points for hitting the cat" while she sat at the end of her own driveway. Nekayla was my youngest brother's "baby" and best friend. He almost had a nervouse breakdown when he found her.

May 30, 2003 - March 11, 2004

Gizmo was also hit in front of his home, though there is a chance he was crossing the road. After the other two kittens of the litter and the mother disappeared, Gizmo and Gabriel were the only two left and thus were very close. Until we got Gizmo buried, we had to keep taking Gabriel out of his "coffin" where he would try to get his brother to wake up and play with him at first and eventually would just lay with him. You can look into his eyes and know he is mourning his brother. Why some people believe animals don't have feelings is beyond me. Every pet I have ever had has went through a grieving period when their companions died, and, like you so often hear about old married couples, many have given up and died as well shortly there after.

May 30, 2003 - October 2005

Gabriel, like so many others, was also hit in front of his home. Why people insist on speeding and gunning down cats is beyond me. When the neighbors dogs run out into the road, everyone stops and honks. Can't hit a dog, but a cat is a different story. They don't even try to stop. Sorry, but it just really upsets me. Gabe was the runt of the litter and I remember having to bottle feed him. My mom didn't think he was going to make it, but he outlived all the rest.
Gabe was my youngest brother's "baby" and best friend (Nekayla's replacement, so to speak). He was very upset when he found him, though he took it a lot better than he did Nekayla's death.

April 2006 - June 3, 2006

Kitty was a neighborhood stray that was hit by a car and left for dead. It broke her back and left her paralized from mid-back down. She apparently had internal injuries as well, but it happened on the weekend and the vet wouldn't be in until Monday. She lived 2 days after the accident. She didn't seem to suffer.

2005 - June 14, 2006

Popcorn was one of our neighbor's cats and my daughter's favorite. Our neighbor would even call her "Desire''s outside cat". She used to like to sleep in a flower pot outside our door. She was hit by a car on the road in front of our house. Another one of those jerks who don't know how to drive 15 mph. She leaves behind four tiny kittens.

2006 - November 18, 2006

Furby was one of Popcorns kittens. She managed to stay clear of all the neighborhood speeders, but couldn't manage to get away from a gang of three neighborhood dogs that should have been chained up. Three large dogs against one little kitten, not much of a fair fight.

I'd like to also mention Brianna, Titania, and Moonshine here. We don't know what happened to them. Brianna had a litter of 4 kittens - Moonshine, Gabriel, Gizmo, and Titania - and when they were barely 4 weeks old she vanished without a trace. We took care of her kittens, hoping she would return, but never did. Then 4 months later, Titania vanished without a trace. She was there one day and gone the next morning. Moonshine was like Titania. If they have passed on, I pray Bazel shows them kindness if the afterlife and bid them a fond farewell. If they are alive, may they find their ways home.
