What is Telos Project, what is its mission, and what does
it do?
Telos Project is a California nonprofit organization that was granted its IRS
tax-exempt status in November 2002, thus becoming a 501c3 corporation. Presently
we function with a small board to optimize organizational agility and maximize
energy going to programs.
The mission of Telos Project is building a sustainable world through thinking, action and fun.
Telos currently serves two functions:
•It is the non-profit home for the Climate Protection
Campaign.
•It is the fiscal sponsor for Quest to Save Turtle Island
We anticipate that in the future Telos will create and pursue other opportunities to fulfill its mission.
What is Telos’ background?
The Telos Board is rooted in sustainability - John Garn in green business and information technology, Elizabeth Herron in ecological education and expression. Coordinator Ann Hancock’s sustainability activism began when she co-founded and helped lead Sustainable Sonoma County from 1997 to 2001. During these years, many successful and pioneering projects were produced by the organization, for example, the Better Not Bigger conference, the Ecological Footprint Project, Sustainable Sonoma’s nationally-recognized website, and the creation of the Climate Protection Campaign. It became clear that projects like these could expand beyond local boundaries, so Telos Project was born. Telos’ mission is big and flexible to enable it to keep pace with the rapidly changing sustainability field.
