HAIR REMOVAL: Research the sugaring method

Hair Removal: Information on sugaring hair removal method

What is sugaring? Sugaring is a temporary method of shaving which is similar to waxing, but it uses sticky paste. It is known as an ancient method of hair removal, which is still in use today.

Description & application: A sticky paste is applied to the skin, and a strip of cloth or paper is pressed into the preparation. The strip is then quickly pulled away, taking hairs with it. The advantage is that it can be done at home and is inexpensive ranging from $10 - $20 per kit. Some disadvantages is that the hairs can break off at or below surface, it can be messy, and consistency is difficult to get correct.

*Here is an at home sugaring recipe to try:

1-7/8 cups of white sugar
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup lemon juice

To make use a fairly large, heavy pan because the sugar will foam up as it boils. Mix the ingredients in the pan and put on medium heat. Boil gently until a thermometer reads 120 degrees Celcius. The mixture will turn an amber color as it cooks. Take it off the heat, let it cool a bit and pour into a container. A wide shallow one works best. When the paste is cooled in the jar, it should be quite thick, but it shouldn't be solid. If it flows like honey, it's too thin . If it doesn't flow at all, it's too thick and will probably be too hot to use by the time it's heated to the point where it can be spread. The right consistency is very thick, but 'moldable'. If it flows very slowly and sluggishly when you tilt the jar, then it's about right.
