Most Dogs of War come from Tilea (Italy. GW isn't known for its
ingenuity), so most of the army looks rather Roman/Greek. There are
exceptions off course, like my Golgfag's Mercenary Ogres and The
Bearmen of Urslo.
There are three main characters in my army, namely the general, his
wife and his close friend. I try to include them all if possible,
though because the general is a Lord character I can only use him in
2000+ armies.
Abaran Diantonis
Abaran is the general of the army. He is a Tilean nobleman from the
Plains of Luccuni, and while he is not very rich or powerful he still
commands a good army.
In battle he rides a pegasus, wields a lance and wears heavy armor and a
shield.
Primavera Diantonis
Abaran's wife, and a capable sorceress. She often accompanies him in
battle when there are no funds to hire another wizard, or when the
army is smaller she accompanies Vaarhart to give magical support.
She is a level 2 wizard and carries a simple sword. She is most
trained in the Lore of Shadows, and frequently uses this on the
battlefield.
Lord Vaarhart
Varhaart is the captain of the army, and a good friend of the general.
He was once a Brettonian knight, but when he killed his opponent's
horse during a joust he fled the country and eventually ended up in
Tilea. After that incident he has never ridden a horse again.
In battle Lord Vaarhart wears heavy armor and carries a shield and a
sword. Note that despite his name he is only a hero.
Apart from these three characters my army consists of: Bronzino and
two of his Galloper Guns. The Alcatani Fellowship. Braganza's
besiegers. A Paymaster and bodyguard. The Republican Guard. The
Bearmen of Urslo. Golgfag's Mercenary Ogres, Vespero's
Vendetta and another unit of skirmishers
This is the only army with a real story behind them, which I have
written down below.
After several months of roaming the lands, Varhaart reached the lands
of Tilea. His skill in combat proved very useful, and he hired
himself out as a mercenary.
Because of his excellent equipment (not to mention the fact that he
provided it himself), he proved to be quite popular amongst the
different generals.
One day the Duke of Paipia, Maxinentus, hired Varhaart to lead a small
band of mercenaries on a mission to kidnap the daughter of a
neighboring duke. The girl was currently located in a tower next to
the ocean, and the duke provided transportation in the form of a small
boat.
But because of the many patrols, the boat would leave the area as soon
as Varhaart had entered the tower, and only return exactly one hour
later.
The journey to the tower, as well as the short trip on the boat were
uneventful, and the kidnapping proceeded smoothly. However, when
Varhaart arrived back at the spot they were to be picked up, there was
no boat.
15 minutes they waited before the were found by the tower guards, and
a bloody battle ensued. Several of Varhaarts men were cut down even
before they could respond, and Varhaart only barely managed to escape
with the girl.
Returning to the duke that had hired him was impossible, all his
escape-routes were cut off. All the guards were closing in on him, and
he was trapped.
Suddenly the girl called out to the guards, telling them to back off
otherwise she would get hurt. The guards complied, and Varhaart
escaped with his prisoner.
Varhaart had not expected this from the girl, and when he asked her
the reason for what she had done, she told him she had grown bored of
her life as a duke's daughter. She wanted to see the world, and he
seemed the best way to get what she wanted.
A little shocked, Varhaart contemplated returning to his employer. But
why had the boat not been there? And he did not know what he would do
to the girl. He had started to feel protective of her.
Cicillia was her name, and together they traveled the lands. The
duke's men did not follow them for some reason, so Varhaart believed
there was more behind all of this than a simple feud between two
dukes.
After several weeks of wandering, they came to the lands of Diantonis.
Feeling it was time to settle down, Varhaart offered his services to
the nobleman, who accepted and placed Varhaart in command of his
guard.
Several years passed, and the love between Varhaart and Cicillia and
his friendship with Abaran grew. In a small church, Cicillia
became Varhaarts wife.
This would not last...
Only two days after their marriage, Varhaart awoke in the morning to
find his wife gone. Hearing a scream from outside, he dashed for the
window to catch a last glimpse of his wife, dragged into the shadows
by several hooded figures.
Off course he grabbed his sword and ran after them, but they seemed to
be at home in the darkness of that winter-morning, and soon he was
forced to abandon his pursuit.
After Abaran had heard this tale from his heart-broken friend, he
acted without hesitating. Together with his wife and Varhaart, he set
out to collect an army and rescue Cicillia from her mysterious
captors.

Abaran Diantonis is the army's general, and rides to battle either on his horse or his pegasus.
The model on the left is one of the first I painted, while the one on the right is a recent conversion of a plastic Empire captain and Balthasar's pegasus

Primavera Diantonis, Abaran's wife, is a priestess of Myrmidia.
Also a very old miniature, I bought it about a month after I bought the first Abaran

Abaran's close friend, and the army's second in command. Varhaart and his quest to find his wife are the reasons for the army's formation.
Bought at the same time as Primavera, he was the miniature who inspired me to write the background to this army.

Beriella, a wood elf mage, joined the army several months after its formation.
Yes this is the Everqueen model, which I bought in a box along with the Maiden Guard I use are skirmishers. They are also some of the newest Dogs of War miniatures I've painted.

An arabian raider who changed his name and turned to Sigmar after his entire raiding party was killed in a storm.
This is a converted Kislev Horse Archer Champion.

Vito Viasco is the army's paymaster.
For some reason, there has never been an official Paymaster miniature, only a special character which this is.

Lorenzo, the legendary general, sometimes hires the army from Abaran when he and Varhaart need to investigate on their own.
When the Euro was introduced in my country, a lot of Warhammer products went down in price. I took adantage of this by buying Lorenzo cheap. A good move, since he is no longer available it seems.

Two of Bronzino's Galloper Guns, and Bronzino himself.
Bronzino and the right galloper gun are among my first miniatures, and the left Gun is a somewhat newer addition.

The Alcatani Fellowship, a unit of 20.
Twelve of these were the first miniatures I bought and painted, and I added the other 8 over the course of several months.

A unit of 15 Leopold Leopard's Company.
A quite recent addition, they became a lot better in the new version.

A unit of 15 Ricco's Republican Guard.
Even though they are less old than the Alcatani Fellowship, I managed to make their faces look worse somehow.

A unit of 9 Braganza's Besiegers.
In the current rules, this unit has a minimum size of 10. But they came at 6 in a box and 3 per blister, and I've never found another blister of them since the new Fantasy came out.

A unit of 10 Armoured Orcs, including Ruglud.
My newest addition to the army, and one of my firsts experiences in painting orcs.

20 Bearmen of Urslo, including Beorg Bearstruck.
Another unit I bought in pieces, the first 8 I bought years ago, while the other 12 several months ago.

Aside from the Galloper Guns, the army also has a single light cannon.
This is the plastic Empire cannon you get in the new Fantasy starter box. I sold the other miniatures since I couldn't use them in my Dogs of War army.

Golgfag and 4 of his mercenary ogres.
Quite old, but I think they look very good. I loved painting them, with all the different furs that make up their coats.
