Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40K are tabletop wargames produced by
Games Workshop. In these games, each player takes command of an army
made up of a number of metal and/or plastic models, which he or she
moves around the battlefield. Combat is reflected by the means of
dice-rolls, and it is the outcome of these rolls that determine
the outcome of combats.
I've been collecting Warhammer armies for almost two years now, and
while I haven't played much, I am already in command of four different
armies, two for each game-system.
The reason why I have two armies for each system are simple.
First of all: variation. Painting and playing with endless waves of
Space Marines becomes boring rather quickly, so for the sake of
variation (and to retain my sanity), I have two armies for each
system.
Secondly: Having two armies allows me to play with a friend who doesn't
have an army of who doest have it with him.
Below you can choose between any of my four armies to read about them,
though the amount of information varies wildly. There are currently no
pictures here, because I only want pictures of my own units, not
pictures I downloaded somewhere.
The first army I started to collect are the Dogs of War. The Dogs of War are made up of
mercenaries and freebooters, all of whom have a single goal in mind:
to become rich!
Second are the forces of Chaos. From the
northern wastes come the minions of the four Chaos Gods, determined to
conquer the world and bent it to their will.
My first army for Warhammer 40K are the Space Marines. The Space Marines are
split up in different armies called "Chapters", and
mine are called the "Dogs of War". Yes I know, but they don't have
anything to do with the Dogs of War two alinea above. I only realized
this the next day after naming my Chapter, and I didn't feel like
changing it.
And last but not least are the Eldar. These
enigmatic aliens (they look a lot like elves though) travel across the
stars in their huge Craftworlds, the last remnants of their once vast
empire.
here is a document I wrote explaining the
advantages and disadvantages of the armies in 40K, both from a collectors and a
players point of view.
