OUR DOGS

We are family with three almost adult children, Luka, Ana and Niki. We live in Lendava, small town in north-eastern Slovenia. Our local kennel society KD Lendava is known as organizer of CACIB Lendava International Dog Show. 

Basset Lucky, beagle Coco and her son Arthur are very important members of our family.

His arrival in our home was very important moment and change in our family life. 

Soon after his arrival, Lucky was shown on CACIB Lendava show, which was organized by our local kennel society. 

The event was something special. Lot of very beautiful dogs and very nice people were having good time.

 He won lot of certificates and rossettes (CAC, CACIB BOB). I understood nothing. Friends explained me what all these abbreviations meant. I have learned, that Lucky was champion quality dog.  

The most important was the fact, that we were definitely infected by incurable disease called "dog showing". 

The symptoms are: 

(1) You must spend weekends with nice dogs and their humans, 

(2) You know all about the dogs, even their masters' names and phone numbers,

(3) You are prepared to drive all day long to the show, 

(4) Sometimes you skip to visit mother in law, because of dog show

(5) When you plann vacations, you check show calendar first,

(6) Dog food is the first item on your shoping list

(7) You know the size of your dogs' collars, but your wife's bra size .. sorry, no

(8) You know the birth dates of all your dogs, but birthdays of your friends you have to check

(9) You know all certificates, your dogs have wonn, but children's grades (???)

In one word, you are possessed.

Our start with beagles was in 1996, when we have noticed lovely small hounds. We compared them with bassets and found them more attractive, because of their restless nature and size. Besides this, we found that beagle owners were very nice people, who love all the dogs. Since that moment we knew that beagles will be our breed one day.

The Day was in January 1998, when young beagle female Coco came in our life.

She showed us, what the beagle is.

She started with home redecoration. 

She decided to join Lucky and sleep together with him in our bed.

(We spent one year teaching and training both of them to sleep in dogs' bed.)

She became Lucky's best friend.

She is also became the show dog. While showing her, we met lot of beagle owners and breeders in our part of Europe.

The beagle people, as well as breed, are special kind. Like beagles, they are nice, charming and very tolerant.

They are very friendly people who love each other and like other people's dogs.

With lot of them we are good friends. With beaglers, whom we met on the web, we are pen friends.

This nice people and their dogs, were the reason to make the next step in our canine career. 

We have decided to start with breeding.

To give our future puppies family name, we have registered "Halicanum" as our breeding kennel name in Slovenian National Kennel Club's and F.C.I.'s kennel registry. We did it in January 2000.

In January 2001 we had Halicanum's first litter.

In April 2002 we had Halicanum's second litter.

In May 2002, I have concluded my judging training and became beagle show judge, with national license.

He is one of six puppies from Halicanum's "A" litter. We have decided to keep him at home.

He is very spoiled family pet.

When we had our second litter, he acted as an older brother to his sister Barbara and brothers Baltazar and Bartholomew. He enjoyed playing with puppies, especially with Barbara. He let her everything.

We are happy to have asistance with socialization of puppies born in our home.
