Tag is
the Tel Aviv branch of Merkaz Hamagshimim Hadassah which is an
organization dedicated to helping young immigrants, tourists and
native Israelis build a life rich in culture, social interaction and
involvement in Israeli society. Established in 1996, the Merkaz
reflects an ideology of Zionism and Jewish pluralism and respects
these principles in all areas of life.

What is Merkaz Hamagshimim?
Merkaz Hamagshimim Hadassah in
Jerusalem is a
combination absorption center and community center, located in the
German Colony. Hamagshimim, the adult expression of the Zionist
youth movement Young Judaea, has grown in Israel from a small
cooperative student apartment into a compound in Jerusalem that
houses at least 26 residents and runs a system of year-round
cultural, educational and social activities in both
Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Merkaz programs and services provide a
support system and a “home” for over 2000 young adults each year.
Merkaz Hamagshimim is pluralist in every sense of the
word and caters to all 19-35 year old Olim as well as Israeli’s that
encourage and support immigration.
Merkaz
Hamagshimim a division of Young Judaea, is Sponsored by Hadassah,
the Women’s Zionist Organization of American with support from the
Aliyah Department of the Jewish Agency for
Israel.
And what is Tag?
Tag is the Tel Aviv branch of Merkaz Hamagshimim. It was
established to cater for the specific needs of the Tel Aviv oleh
community.
Tag provides a framework for young olim living in the centre
of the country to become a part of the larger community of other
olim and Israelis.
Merkaz Hamagshimim runs many events for both the
Jerusalem
community and Tag, such as tiyulim and weekend seminars.
Tag the Tel Aviv branch of Merkaz Hamagshimim, is
sponsored by Hadassah, in partnership with the Hagshama Department
of the World Zionist Organization.
What activities does Tag run?
Tag runs an assortment of activities including
parties and social events, community and volunteer work, picnics and
barbeques, lectures, social and environmental activism, theatre
evenings, museum trips, hikes and sports activities.
We are open to initiating new activities and are
always on the look out for suggestions.
How can I get more involved?
Just turn up at one of our advertised events – it’s
as easy as that!

What is Tel Aviv like?
Tel Aviv is a young city full of energy that never
sleeps and caters to all tastes. You can always find something to do
in the vibrant city center which bustles with culture and
entertainment.
Tel Aviv is a beach city with wide boulevards and
palm trees. There are water sports, beach bars and a promenade. A
cycling culture is developing and there are currently 20 km of cycle
lanes around the city. There are many museums, cinemas, restaurants
and bars. There are
also many worthwhile non-profit organizations that are
constantly looking for able volunteers to assist them with their
good work.
Within the Oleh community you will find a wide
assortment of backgrounds including Americans, Brits, French, South
Africans, South Americans, Canadians, Germans, Swiss and Dutch, with
a mix of secular, traditional and orthodox religious observance
levels.
How will I meet people?
Tag offers a wide variety of events and a friendly
atmosphere. You can choose the events that suit you and you will be
assured of meeting like-minded people.

How can I find a job?
There are several recruitment companies
that specialize in placing English speakers.
Our
Merkaz Meida (Information
Center) contains details of numerous recruitment websites, some of
which have English versions.
Another very good way is through friends.
This is called protectsia and it can help tremendously in all
aspects of life in
Israel!
In what area should I look for an apartment?
The most central and convenient area where most Olim
are located is between the sea on the west and Ibn Gvirol Street on
the east, Nordau Boulevard on the north and Sheinkin on the south.
If you plan on studying at
Tel Aviv
University then it may be more convenient being in North Tel Aviv
within walking distance of the University.
