Once you get your hamster, you need to properly care for your pet.  You will need to select a cage for your new furry friend.  There are many of varieties to choose from.  There are wire cages and plastic cages.  Either one will be good, just be sure that it is roomy enough for your hamster to run around in.  I like the two story cage wires, which is what my hamster lives in.
Hamster litter or bedding on the bottom of the cage will make your hamster happy.
Bedding you can use for the cage are:
* wood shavings
* torn paper towels
* wood chips
Don't use:
*  anything poisonous

  • Anything sharp
  • Anything entangling
  • Anything fluffy
  • Cotton wool

Other equipment you'll need:
  • water bottle
  • Feeding dish.  Make sure it's heavy enough so that your hamster can't tip it over.
  • A hamster wheel, since your hamster will need exercise.
You can also put other fun toys in the cage like toilet paper tubes or any hamster toys you find at a pet store.  Just make sure you don't overcrowd the cage.

You can put a little hamster house or a box for your hamster to sleep in.  My hamster has both since he can't decide which he likes to sleep in.  I put torn paper towels, saw dust, and an old clean sock in my hamsters house.

You should put the cage in an area that is warm and free of drafts.  Don't keep the cage in sun light, since hamster are nocturnal
