Times Change

~Chapter 1~

"So, Kyle what's this party for?" Brian asked his long time friend.
"Well, let's just say it's a 'thank-God-finals-are-over party." He answered.
"Sounds good."
"Dude, look who it is." Kyle said to Brian. It was Alyssa Schneider and Melissa Walker. Kyle has had a huge crush on Alyssa, and Melissa has wanted Brian for as long as anyone can remember.
"Hi Kyle." Alyssa said.
"Hi." He answered.
"Hi Brian. You look hot tonight." Melissa said seductively.
"Hi." Was all he said. The four of them talked for a while, but when Brian was looking over Melissa's shoulder, he saw a girl sitting by herself on the couch. Without saying a thing, he walked away from Melissa and towards the girl.
"What is he doing?" Melissa asked shocked.
"Talking to that girl." Alyssa said.
"I know that. Who is she? And what does she have that I don't?"
"I think that's a freshman. I don't know who she is though." Melissa just stared at the two of them.
"Hi, can I sit here?" Brian asked the lonely girl.
"Yeah sure." She answered. She had a sweet voice and Brian though that she was pretty cute.
"My name's Brian." He said.
"Oh, I'm Christian, but most people call me Chrissy." She answered.
"Christina, that's a pretty name. I haven't seen you around before, are you new?"
"Yeah, I just moved here from North Carolina. I'm a freshman at Tates Creek."
"Really, I'm a sophomore there. I'm surprised I haven't seen you around."
"I've only lived here for 3 weeks so, I haven't been at school for too long."
"Oh, so you probably have Mr. Baratta then."
"Yep, even with the short amount of time I've lived here, he already hates me."
"Has he given you his 'the weekend is not a time to go and get stoned' speech?" He imitated the teacher while saying it. Chrissy just laughed. "Ah, there's your smile. I knew that I'd see it eventually." The two of them talked for about another hour until they decided to leave.

~Chapter 2~

"So why were you at the party any way?" Brian asked while they were walking around.
"Well, I befriended a couple girls and they said that they were going. I decided to go too, but they bailed at the last minute. And why were you there?" Chrissy replied.
"My friend, Kyle, is the one throwing it."
"Ice cream." Chrissy said noticing that the Baskin Robins was still opened. "Do you want to get some?"
"Sure." Brian answered. Chrissy got Mint Chocolate Chip, while Brian got Blue Moon and Strawberry Cheesecake together.
"How can you eat that?" Chrissy said.
"Like this." Brian took a huge spoon full and shoved it in his mouth. They walked to the park and finished their ice cream there.
"So, are you always this open to people?" Brian asked when they sat on the swings.
"Actually no, I'm usually really shy." She answered.
"Could have fooled me. You're the first shy person that has left and party with and ate ice cream at a park with me."
"The truth is, there is just something about you that makes me really comfortable."
"If you don't mind me asking, why did your family move?" Brian asked.
"We just needed a change of scenery." Chrissy said. She started to rub a cross necklace she was wearing.
"It's already 11:30. I have to get home." Chrissy said.
"I could give you a ride if you wanted." Brian suggested.
"That would be great." They walked back to Kyle's house and go in Brian's car.
"It's the gray one on the left." Chrissy said.
"This is great, I live down on Woodland." Brian said.
"That's cool, maybe we could do something again." Chrissy said getting out of the car. "Hey Brian, thanks for everything."
"It was my pleasure." He said and pulled out of the driveway.

~Chapter 3~

Over the next three months Brian and Chrissy got really close. They got together everyday after school and played basketball.
"Brian, do you get the feeling that we do the same thing everyday?" Chrissy asked one day.
"Yeah, it does feel like that." He said and thought for a second, "I know, let's play Pig instead."
"Wow, you sure are adventurous."
-------------
Chrissy was walking down a dark, quiet hallway. The only light she saw came from the cracks of doors, and the only noise came from her footsteps. She finally approached a door, and opened it. Inside the room there was a woman lying on a bed. Chrissy remembered how the woman looked before, she was strong, beautiful, and so full of energy and life. But now all that was there was a skeleton of that woman. Now she was so frail and barely holding onto life.
"Christina, come closer." Said the woman, so Chrissy walked toward her. "You look so beautiful. I want you to always, always remember that you can do what ever you want to do. You have a fire that no one can take away. I will always be with you." Both the woman and Chrissy were crying.
"I love you." Christina said.
"I love you too." The woman said faintly. Suddenly the all of the machines attached to the woman started to beep loudly. Doctors rushed in, and pushed Chrissy aside. Next to her stood her dad and brother, Billy.
"I'm sorry, but we've lost her." One of the doctors said. Christina, Billy and their dad started crying harder than they were.
"No, come back. We need you. Don't go." Christina shouted at the woman's body. Her dad placed his hand on her shoulder. She turned around and hugged him.
------------------------------
Chrissy woke up with tears streaming down her face, sweating and panting.
~Oh, no.~ She thought to herself, ~Not again.~

*Later that Day*

Chrissy was just sitting around her house, hoping to lay low. She felt unbelievably depressed. The phone ringing snapped her back from space.
"Hello?" She said in a monotone voice.
"Hey, Chrissy, is there something wrong?" Brian asked.
"No, I'm just really tired today. I didn't get much sleep last night."
"Oh, well, I was wondering if you wanted to come over. That is if you're up to it."
"Sure, I'll be over in a few minutes." So she went over to Brian's and they started to play 21.
"Are you sure there's nothing wrong? You never lose." Brian said.
"I guess I can tell you." Chrissy said, she walked toward the front step. "I've never really told anyone this but," She took a deep breath, "Three years ago today, my mom died of breast cancer." She started to cry. Brian wrapped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her closer.
"Chrissy, I'm so sorry. I don't know what to say."
"You don't have to say anything." She said. A few seconds later, it started to rain.
"Come on, let's go in." Brian said.

~Chapter 4~

"I was wondering where you two were. I didn't see you out on the driveway." Mrs. Littrell said when she heard Brian and Chrissy come in. When she saw Chrissy crying she asked what was wrong. Brian just looked at Chrissy, and she nodded.
"Mom, three years ago today, Chrissy's mom died." He said.
"Oh, Christina, I'm sorry." She took Chrissy into her arms and hugged her. "Is there anything we can do for you?"
"No, not really, but thanks for asking." Chrissy answered. Brian and Chrissy sat downstairs talking about Chrissy's mom. Chrissy explained that her mom's death was their reason for moving. Her dad was handling everything very well the first few years, but then he just couldn't handle being there anymore.
"You're mom sounded like an amazing woman." Brian said.
"She was, she thought me so much in the little time we had together." Chrissy said.
"Sorry to interrupt," Mrs. Littrell said, "but it's time for dinner. Chrissy, you're welcome to stay if you would like."
"That would be great." She answered.

*One Week Later*

"Look at them, ever since that party, they have been inseparable." Melissa said glaring at Chrissy and Brian playing basketball while she drove past.
"I think it's cute. They have so much fun together." Alyssa said.
"Did I ask you?" Melissa shot back. "That Christina is the only thing that is keeping Brian and I apart."
"So what are you going to do about it?"
"I don't know, yet."
---------------------------------------------------
"Ok, I'm up by four." Chrissy said. "My next shot could be the end." They played for a while more, but no one scored. Chrissy had the ball when a car pulled into her driveway. While Brian was looking at the car, Chrissy made the shot.
"Hey Shorty!" The guy who came out of the car said.
"Billy!" Chrissy ran over to him, and gave him a hug.
"Who's this?" Billy said looking at Brian.
"This is my friend, Brian. Brian, this is Billy, my brother."
"Wait, what are you doing home?" Chrissy asked.
"I had a few days free, so why not visit my favorite sister?" He answered.

*Three Days Later*

Over the last couple days, Billy, Chrissy and Brian spent a lot of time together. Chrissy was glad that Billy didn't kill Brian like he had to the last few guy friends she had. One day when Chrissy and Billy were playing basketball at the park, Melissa interrupted them.
"Hey Christina, we have to talk." She said. So Chrissy went over and talked to her.

*Later that Day*

Brian went over to Chissy's house to she if she wanted to play some ball. When she opened the door, Brian saw something he never expected to see.
"What happened?" He said in shock. Chissy was all beat up. She had a swollen eye and had cuts all over her face.
"Melissa and I got into a fight. She was telling me that you were her property, and that I should just go back to where I came from. That didn't really bother me, but when she talked about my mom, I flipped. So I punched her, and after that I can't remember much. All I know is that Billy pried me off of her."
"Are you ok though?"
"Yeah, so you want to come in?"
"Sure." They headed to the kitchen, and Chrissy got Brian a soda.
"The one thing I don't get is, why would Melissa say that you were her property?" Chrissy asked.
"Well, back in eight grade, we went out for a year. Ever since we broke up, she still believes that we were the perfect couple, and we belong together. She probably thinks that you are interfering with her plans to get us back together." Brian explained.
"Oh, that makes so much sense." Chrissy said sarcastically.
"I know, doesn't it.
