Fast Attack
Doomdiver Talon ‘Tautonicus’ (Rough Rider)
Wargear:
Veteran Sergeant ‘Leto Iccarus’ - Hunting Lance & Power Weapon, Honorifica Imperialis, Carapace Armour
6 Dragons - Hunting Lance & Close Combat Weapons
Doomdiver Talon ‘Magmaticus’ (Rough Rider)
Wargear:
Veteran Sergeant ‘Orz’ - Hunting Lance & Power Weapon
6 Dragons - Hunting Lance & Close Combat Weapons
“You have truly never seen a blitz raid until you have watched the Doomdivers in action!
The Harakoni are expert drop troops, utilising gliders instead of grav-chutes and it took me
a full half a year to become adept enough to get some recognition amongst them.
The Doomdivers are the best or most suicidal (or both!) of the gliders and they are such experts
at navigating the winds in break-neck speed that their weapons of choice are long explosive hunting
spears to drive into the enemy before sweeping over again for another pass, continuing until the enemy
is destroyed! You never see them coming until the shaped charges on their lances hit their mark
a mere 3-4 feet of the ground. One wrong movement and their glider will hit the ground and they
will die a quick, albeit violent death. They are the Harakoni’s assassin equivalent, and I must
confess that even I am a bit honoured to have the privilege to see such daring and devotion for
the imperial creed. Unorthodox as it may be, effective beyond measure it is for certain!” – Commissar Tichondrius
'Coiling Wyrm’ Sentinel Squadron
Wargear:
Sentinel ‘Purgatos’ - Armageddon Pattern (LasCannon), Improved Comms, Smoke Launchers
“The most sophisticated Sentinels in their whole sector are deployed by the Phoenixes.
They include special communications gear and intelligence gathering equipment to better aid it
in the forward reconnaissance role it is delegated! They sport Lascannons to aid the regiment in tank-hunting,
but their true role is to relay correct information to the dropping troops so that they arrive in force on
time and on target. Due to this advantage we often strike during the night or in mists where we have an
edge over our enemies striking before they know we’re present. Many of our commanders past and present
will owe their success to the courage of those heroic sergeants whos thankless task it is to pilot them all,
in a sea of opposition… Hours, days, even sometimes weeks before the assault commences!” – Commissar Tichondrius
Designer’s Note:
The Doomdivers are my personal pride! The army needed some quick assault troops, and with a little ingenuity I managed to include the Rough Riders, which would otherwise be out of character in a Drop Troops army, into the fold, by letting their “steeds” be their wings. The conversions were simple enough using bits from the GW mail order…
Highly effective one-punch assault troops they literally blast their way through any enemy army by impaling them on exploding lances… The Heroic Veterans are equipped with power weapons to ensure that they still remain some effectiveness after the initial raid… My only concerns are that I can’t have a priest with a holy symbol in the unit, to give them more attacks for their massive assault, and that they don’t count as Guard Infantry units and can thus not be dropped into action from the air. (Not surprising really since dropping in a bunch of horses would look rather stupid!)
The Sentinel is there exclusively for two reasons. One – I got one in the army deal, Two – With the Improved Comms you can re-roll to see if your reserves appear, a most valuable asset, so the drop troops arrive in force instead of single units at a time, to be slaughtered…
