The Dnepr launcher is a converted R-36N Voevoda ICBM (Western Designation SS-18 Satan) which is the most powerful ICBM in the world. Dnepr is launched from a Silo, which is ejected hydraulically (steam eject) and the engines are ignited only after the vehicle clears the silo. The Dnepr launch vehicle, with a payload capability of 4,500 kg (9,920 lbs) to Low Earth Orbit, is targeted at the small science satellites, little LEO and LEO O&M markets. Kosmotras has Russian government approval to convert and launch over 150 R-36N missiles as Dnepr launch vehicles. Dnepr's 1st and 2nd stages are standard SS-18 stages that are used without modification. The 3rd stage is a standard SS-18 3rd stage with the modified control system memory unit. The vehicle weighs 211 tons, core diameter is 3 meters and is 34 meters tall.
