Traci:

Traci scanned the area while she gave directions to the paramedics.
Pulling out her gun, she hung up and slipped away from the rest of the group.

The alley was dark, but she could still smell the cigarette.

"Why her?" she hissed.

"Why not?"

"I could just shoot you now you know."

"You could, but you won't.  He's still alive - for now."

"I swear if anything..."

"Traci?  Where are you?"
Webb's voice flowed through the cool night air.

She didn't respond.

"Casey did nothing to you."

"She was with him."

Closing her eyes, she felt the stinging of the unshed tears.

"Please, just end this whole thing.  We did nothing to you.  Neither did he."

"Traci?"

She could hear the panic rising in Webb's voice, and now Charlie and Mulder had joined in.

"They will come down here soon looking for you.  What are you going to tell them if they find you here with me?"

"That I was here to kill you," she hissed.

"Wouldn't be good for Krycek then, would it be?"

"I don't know what you want from me.  Just please, don't hurt him,"   Traci whispered.

"You'd better get back to your friends."

Sighing, she turned and left CSM in the dark.

The ambulance was pulling up as Traci emerged from the alley.
Scully and Charlie were helping load Casey on.

"Traci!"  Webb ran over to her, but stopped short. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," she said, shaking her head.
He touched her cheek, wiping the tears away.

"What happened?"

"I thought I saw the guy, but I was wrong."  She looked up at him.  "I'm sorry for scaring you."

He nodded.

Together, they walked back to the ambulance.

Upon being told where they were taking her, Mulder and Scully led the way with Webb and Traci behind.  Charlie had felt it best that he go with Casey.

Kelly:

Charlie Cameron came out of OR 2 where he had been treating Casey, outside the room Webb, Traci, Mulder & Scully waited anxiously.

"How is she?" Webb asked as Charlie walked out.

Charlie looked at Clay.
"I'm not going to lie to you Clay, she's not in good shape. We lost her three times on the way here. We've given her a transfusion, and we've managed to stop the bleeding but ...."

"But what?"   Webb asked as Charlie hesitated, a feeling of dread coming over him.

"But...my suggestion is that if you have anything you want to say to Casey ...say it now."

"What do you mean, she's going to be alright...isn't she?"

Charlie looked at Clay, real sympathy for Clay's plight in his eyes.

"I'm sorry Clay, I just don't know."

Clay sat down hard on the chair in the ER.

"I need to see her...I have to tell her..."  He said brokenly.

Charlie  nodded and led Clay to where Casey lay silent and pale on the hospital gurney.  Clay turned and looked back at Traci, standing in the doorway to Casey's room with a sad smile on her face.

"You understand don't you?"   He said softly to her.

She nodded and hugged him.

"Be happy."
She said as she turned and walked away.

Mulder watched the scene with interest, Casey was a good friend and if he hadn't had such deep feelings for Scully maybe things would have been different between them, but he knew that if she had to be with anyone, Webb was the guy.

It was obvious to Mulder that Webb was in love with Casey, it was just a shame that it had taken nearly losing her, for him to realise how deeply.

But as Clay walked in and sat by Casey's bedside, brushing the hair back from her face, it was Traci that Mulder watched.

She stood watching Clay and Casey with a smile on her face...a smile that said she was happy for him...for them.

"Traci...you OK?" Dana asked.

Traci nodded.

"I'm fine now, and now that Clay is with Casey I know she'll be fine too. But right now there's someone else that we need to help." She said.

Dana looked at Charlie who was taking Casey's blood pressure and checking her IV.

"No...not him...someone else...someone I never expected to see again."  She said softly.

"You don't mean..." Mulder said with a reproving look.

"Yes, I mean Krycek."
Traci said firmly, matching Mulder's look of disapproval with a look of determination.

"Krycek...why on earth would you want to help him?" Dana asked shocked.

"Because CSM has him!" Traci said quietly. "And if we don't get him back ...he'll be dead by morning."

'And if he dies...I might as well too'  Traci thought to herself.

Dana looked at Traci and nodded.

"OK, we'll help."

Without saying a word to anyone, they left the hospital and went in search of Krycek.

Inside the small room, Clay sat next to Casey watching the steady rise and fall of her breathing.

"Guess you and Traci will be going on another date then?"

Clay said to Charlie who stood at the end of Casey's bed checking her chart.

"Traci needs someone....but I'm sorry.... I'm just not that guy!"
He said with a shake of his head.
"I've know Traci for 2 weeks now, and in that 2 weeks I have been kidnapped, threatened, tied up and had to save the life of someone I've come to think of as a friend...not to mention meeting someone who is my exact double." He smiled at Webb. "I just don't think my nerves can handle dating Traci"

When Webb began to protest Charlie held up his hand.

"Clay, we come from worlds that are completely different, she'd fit in my world...but I could never fit into hers. I'm funny in that....I need to know the woman I'm with, has a good chance of being alive the next time I want to see her!"  He said ruefully.

"Chi...chicken!" Casey whispered from the bed with a small smile.

Charlie grinned.

"You're supposed to be knocked out."
He said gently as he came around the bed to take her pulse.

"Take more than a little Morphine to knock me out Doc!" She said smiling at him. "You know...about him...don't you?"

"About Krycek?"   Charlie asked with a ghost of a smile.

"I can't believe she told you!"

"We talked about it." Charlie said with a slow grin. "He's a lucky guy, I just hope his nerves can take it!"

Clay grinned, despite their differences (and their similarities) he liked Charlie Cameron, he was honest.

"I'm going to leave you two alone now." Charlie said as he left.

Clay turned to Casey after Charlie left, holding her hand in his.

"How do you feel?"

"Like I've been shot?"

"Smart ass." He chuckled.

"Why aren't you with Traci?"   Casey asked softly.

"Because I'm where I belong!"   He said smiling down at her.

"Clay...but.."

"Anyone ever tell you that you talk to much?"  Clay asked grinning.

"Really...you don't have to..."

Casey's protestations were silenced with a kiss that answered all her questions and quelled all her doubts.

Traci:

Traci sat quietly in the backseat as Mulder drove.
He kept glancing at her in the rear-view mirror.

"You can stop that, Mulder."

"I just don't understand..."

Scully placed her hand on his arm.   "You don't have to," she whispered to him.

His eyes met hers  for a brief second before returning to the road.
Scully shifted in the passenger seat to look at Traci.

"You have to understand our hesitation in this.  He was responsible for many deaths and..."

Traci nodded.

"I know."
The tears were becoming increasingly more difficult to fight back.

"He's told me all about that, and I'm sorry.  But you have to understand he's not that man anymore."   Catching Mulder's doubting glance, she continued.   "I know it sounds like  one of those 'he's changed' speeches, but it's not. That cigarette guy did some nasty things to him as well."
She met Mulder's eyes in the mirror at a stop light.
"I bet you didn't know that he was holding Krycek's little sister all those years.  As leverage against him."

Mulder's eyes fell from hers.

"No," Scully said.  "We didn't."
Her mouth moved in search of more words, but none came.

"He didn't want to do all those things.  He felt horrible about it.  He told me there were many nights, more than not, where he wanted to kill himself, to stop all of this, but the thoughts of Michele kept him going."  The tears began to fall.  "I just... I don't..."

"We'll get him.  Alive."
Scully turned back around, passing a quick glance at Mulder, seeing the glistening of a shed tear on his cheek.

Meanwhile....

Charlie quietly exited the room as Casey and Webb silently studied each other.

He had just stepped into the hallway when a hand grabbed his arm.
He turned to come face to face with Webb.

"Thank you, and I'm sorry."  Charlie smiled.   "No apologies.  It was an adventure I'll never forget."

The smile faded.
"I just hope Traci finds him alive."

Webb nodded.
He and Casey had found each other.
Traci had let him go, yet part of him still loved her and always would, not a love like he had for Casey, but the love of a partner, a friend.

He prayed for her sake that Alex would be alright.

Traci pulled Mulder back behind the car in front of the facility.

"Let me go in first."

"But..."

Scully touched his hand, locked on his eyes and, without a word, he agreed.

The cool mist helped to conceal her as she moved over to the side door.

CSM was sure to be around somewhere, probably even expecting her.

She was not about to get Mulder and Scully killed too.
Reaching the door, she was surprised to find the alarm turned off.

Using the skills she learned from many years of MacGyver re-runs, she picked the lock in seconds and slid inside.

"Scully, we can't just let her go alone.  She'll get herself killed.  And over what?  A killer?"

"Mulder."

When he didn't look at her, she held his face and forced him to look.

"She loves him.  She would do anything for him - even die."  She shrugged.  "I don't understand it either.  But she must see something we don't.  Besides, you and he were in the same situation.  That could have just as easily been you who chose that path."

After a moment of contemplation, he nodded.

Giving her a quick, promising kiss on the forehead, he stood up.

"Let's go."
They pulled out their guns and ran in after her.

Kelly:

Traci moved up the stairs of the rather sterile looking building.

The grey walls and white linoleum flooring lending it a hospital like quality.
An open door at the end of the hall, caught her attention, and even though she felt like she walking right into a trap she kept on moving.
Her desire to find Alex and get him to safety her primary concern.

She heard a muffled noise and ceased moving.

"Mmffttt"
She pushed the door open a crack with her pistol and looked inside.

Krycek  sat tied to a chair, gagged, a pistol at his temple.
CSM stood behind him, his lit cigarette a stark contrast in the sterile room.

"Let him go Cancer-Man."

CSM looked at Traci and smirked.

"You didn't honestly think that I was going to let him go did you? After all he's done for me...after all he knows?"
He emphasised his point by cocking the gun.
He ripped Kryceks gag off.  "Any last words Alex?"

Krycek looked at Traci.

"Get out of here Tra , I'm quite prepared to die for what I've done...for what he made me do...but you have to get out of here."

"Alex I am not leaving you here!"

"How touching. Excuse me while I throw up." CSM said sarcastically. "If I had known that you didn't mind dying I would have killed both you and your brat sister a long time ago."

Krycek struggled against the ropes that bound him to the chair, they were still not loose enough for him to get free, but given time he could get out of this...he knew he could.
He had to get free, had to protect Michele from this animal.

He looked at Traci, begging her with his eyes to leave...if he was going to die, he didn't want it to be in front of her.

"Why?" Traci asked CSM. "Why did you do it?"

CSM smiled, drawing back on his cigarette.

"Money, power...the usual reasons.
The Syndicate needed someone that would do anything they asked, I was scouting for them at Qantico when I met Alex. He told me all about his little sister and how much he was looking forward to her graduating from high school and going to college.
Then I realised he would be the perfect weapon for us....he was young, eager and intelligent, in fact he reminded me a bit of Mulder. When I thought of that, it gave me the idea to use the same ploy we had used on Mulder's father all those years ago to get him to cooperate...so we kidnapped Krycek's sister and used her as leverage."

"You son of a bitch."  Traci said softly.

She raised her pistol a CSM, cocking the hammer.

"If you shoot me...he dies too. You can't win Agent MacKenzie...you never could."

"See THAT'S where you're wrong"  Mulders voice came from the doorway behind Traci.
"You asshole, you knew my father, you were friends with him and you betrayed him. But now it's time to pay the piper."
Mulder raised his weapon aiming at the light above CSM's head.

"One scream Agent Mulder and ..."

"And what? You're little Black Ops hit Squad will be in here...I don't think so." Scully said with a grim smile. "We've taken care of them...they're sleeping like babies right now?"

"You're bluffing"  CSM said clearly beginning to worry about his own safety.

"I don't bluff."
Scully said with a smile that reminded Traci of the way Casey looked when she got pissed at someone...must be a redhead thin...?she thought to herself.

Mulder looked at Traci and nodded.

They fired simultaneously, Mulder's bullet bringing down the overhead light so that it struck CSM in the head knocking him out.

Traci's bullet knocked out the leg of Kryceks chair, effectively putting him out of the line of fire.
Traci raced to Alex's side, quickly untying the ropes that bound him.

Traci:.

"I told you to get out of here,"
Krycek whispered hoarsely.

Traci smiled.

"As if that was going to happen."
She stood up, supporting him as best she could until Mulder came over to offer some assistance.

"How do you feel?" she asked.

"Like..." Krycek paused as looked at her and smiled.  "Like an angel has saved me."

Mulder rolled his eyes.

"I think I'm going to be sick."

Traci chuckled.

"He's dead," Scully announced from across the room.
She glanced over at the bizarre sight of Mulder helping Krycek before walking over to them.
She reached up and felt Krycek's forehead.

"You're warm.  Dehydrated."

Then she smiled and looked between Krycek and Traci.

"But you'll live."
He merely nodded.  "What about...?"

Suddenly Traci stopped.

"Michele!"

"We have to find her.  She's close, I know it."

"You're in no condition to look," Traci argued.  "I'll stay and look for her."

"Not alone."  His eyes met hers and she could read his fear.

"No, not alone," Mulder interjected.  "I'll stay with her."

Now it was Scully's turn to feel the clutching claws of fear.

It would only be a short time until CSM's co-horts would wake.

They got Krycek to the car.
Mulder and Scully let him and Traci have a moment.

"Mulder, this is too dangerous."
Taking her hands, he lost himself in the blue seas of her eyes.

"I owe him.  I owe her."  He nodded towards the car.  "I owe it to Samantha."

Slowly she nodded.
"It's just...we... just please be careful."

He touched her cheek with his fingers and placed a gentle kiss on her lips.

"I will not leave you.  Not now, not ever," he whispered before stepping back.

Meanwhile...

"I'm worried, Clay."

Casey's color had started to return as had some of her never-ending energy.
"I'm sure they're fine and will be walking through that door any minute."
He caressed the top of her hand as he held it close.
"You need to take it easy.  No worrying."

"Clay..."

He hushed her with a finger to her lips.

"Not now."  Pulling out his cell phone, he grinned.  "I'll see what I can find out."

"Thank you."

Charlie watched from a distance, smiling, until someone bumped into him.

"Oh, I'm sorry.. I didn't... Dr. Cameron...I....."

"Lucy, it's okay."

"What happened with...?"

He grinned.

"Webb and Casey are in there.  Traci went out looking for... someone special."

"They didn't kill each other?"

"No," he laughed.  "Not even close."

Shaking her head in confusion, Lucy went about her rounds.
