Pearl Harbor, the movie voted number 1 in Australia after only just one and a half weeks in theatres, beams through as Josh Hartnett's best movie ever. Set in the before and after time of the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese, it concentrates on the lives of two best friends Refe McCawley(Ben Affleck) and Danny Walker (Josh Hartnett). Both are pilots in the U.S Army Air Corps, and before being sent to England to help fight the Germans, Refe falls in love with Evelyn Johnson (Kate Beckinsale), a nurse for the navy.
When he arrives in England, it's worse than expected, and his plane is soon shot down in an air battle with the Germans. Danny and Evelyn believing he is dead, form a  relationship which gets complicated when Refe returns, alive.
This is followed straight after a pub brawl between Refe and Danny with the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japs the next morning. An air and land war scene then develops with a few tear-sheddings.
Cuba Gooding Jnr also plays a part in the movie. His character as chef Dory Miller in the navy (who was based on an actual true character) makes an attempt to get back at the Japanese, after his captain is killed.
The president, seeking revenge, devises a plan that involves the U.S Army's best pilots. Refe and Danny are then called to act together, despite their newly arisen problem of being in love with the same woman. They realise, however how much they need each other after they leave.
Even though it was rather far-fetched, (e.g the KityHawks that Refe and Danny flew could not have performed those tricks) we think it'd have to be his best movie yet. It was sad, funny, romantic and full of action and must be seen at the cinemas, for the surround sound and wide screen deal.
