Add these newly coined relationship-related terms to your nineties dating dictionary.
camel \'ka-mel\ n 1: a person who has
the ability to go without having sex for
long stretches of time. "That camel
has forgotten what sex feels like."
deboinking \de-'boynk-ing\ n 1: the
act of telling your friends in detail about
your first sexual encounter with a new guy.
"The day she got back from her trip to
Antigua with Paul, Lynn called Kate and
Terri to meet for brunch and deboinking."
foreploy \'for-ploi\ n 1: a premeditated
plan, often transparent, used to lure a per-
son into bed. "He gave me carnations
and called me sugar. If that's his version
of foreploy, he can keep on dreaming."
lay-away \'lay-a'way\ n 1: a person who
interferes with your pickup attempt.
"Heather was scoring with that personal
trainer at the gym until that aerobicized
lay-away asked him to spot her. "
Melrose syndrome \'mel-roz'sin-drom\ n
1: the state of dating only within your
clique. "I hope Elizabeth invited a few new
guys to the party tonight. I'm beginning to
suffer from Melrose syndrome."
razor burned \'ra-zer'bernd\ adj 1: the
feeling of disappointment after shaving
your legs in preparation for a date, only to
have the anticipated night of great sex
fizzle out. "Margaret felt razor burned
when Tom told her he had to get up early
for work, then cut their date short."
ross \'ros\ n 1: the last man to sleep with
a woman before she comes out as a lesbian
(origi n: Friends). " I really am gay. My high
school boyfriend was just my ross."
show pony \'sho 'po-nee\ n 1: a gorgeous
but platonic guy friend who an unattached
woman trots out to escort her to a special
occasion for which a date is required.
"Check out the show pony Dominique
brought to the reunion."
transition\tran-'si-shun\ v 1: to begin a
new relationship after ending a long-term
one. "Lauren's transitioning nicely. She
hasn't even mentioned her ex's name to
her new guy in three whole dates!"
um ... friend \'um-frend\ n 1: an acquaintance with whom, by chance or out of
desperation, you have sex once or twice.
"I'd like you to meet my um ... friend, Bob."
